I've said previously I'm not that into the "Moog sound" but I'm definitely interested in this little synth. I don't think Starsky was being cheeky about the sound 🙂 I'm pretty sure he was just talking about the price. He seemed pretty impressed with the Model D and Crave doing quite deep comparisons with both and the original counterparts, saying they were essentially identical. I'm currently on a bit of a modular kick at the moment, but when the RD78 and Enigma arrive I'll definitely be getting them. And probably a Microfreak for the keyboard to go with the Enigma, and getting a very nice synth for free to boot!

What I like is the right/handed patchbay, same as Neutron, which means you can add another LFO or envelope all neatly patched on the right and all for just $600. Two more oscillators and maybe giving us more of a Matriarch? I was looking through all the synths in the world for the best beginner's synth for someone, and for price / features you can't get past Behringer. For a monosynth the MS1 and for a poly the DeepMind12/6. I prefer the DM6 waiting for it to go on sale again so I can buy two for a true stereo Poly analog (each panned L/R in the mixer).

the moog grandmother has real genuine spring reverb made with a real spring of some sort. i dont think the digital reverb will be as good on the behringer but maybe it is. hard to say, i havent seen any side to side demo comparison. the oscillators will likely be DCOs perhaps, i dont know, also digital, but usually that doesnt make any difference to my ears compared to analog VCOs. Then the ladder filter is a ladder filter, that should sound very similar as it must be analog like the real thing. The arpegiator was a big selling point for the moog, because i remember the music store salesman told me "it s mono but you can play chords with the arpegietor and reverb on". so that is still very cool for a mono synth.

I don't know why they'd use DCOs. A digital reverb makes a certain amount of sense, they've gotten better and better over the years.

@@PatternRecognitionMusic because DCO is cheaper. only difference is DCO is more precise in the shape and timing of the waveform. all voices on DCO may have less warmth because the timing is perfect (this synth is mono anyway). but if you keep one oscillator slightly detuned, then you still have same resulting imperfection we call "warmth". that is my understanding but correct me if im wrong. i believe DCOs are great.

@@weederian123 don't misunderstand, some of my favorite synths of all time used DCOs, but Behringer is not marketing analog for nothing. They know what we want, and the cost is not significantly higher for them to deliver - it ain't the 80s anymore. I all but assure you, any synth they're marketing as analog with VCOs, the Model 15 included, is going to have true analog VCOs. They may be single chip VCOs like the 3340, or they may be discreet, but they'll be analog.

I don't knock behringer. Soon they will be making their own designs once they run out of vintage. I would like a deepmind 2.

Yeah, no sign of it being live on any of the usual suspects including the major Euro outlets. I dunno if I'm gonna bother with this one, I'm pretty happy with my Model D for the Moog character. If one fell into my lap, I'd make noise with it. Didn't hear the Dreadbox news, had to go look. Interesting, but I'd rather see them bring back Antiphon. Back on the Behringer stuff, I'm getting close to where I want to be with my current Eurorack rig and once that's done I'm thinking about a Behringer Go case and a 960/962 to mount with my Model D and a 2HP Tune and Delay, then fill the top row with System 100 bits. Jeez, why didn't anybody warn me about this Eurorack rabbithole???

Now this is a real deal, and it shows how much the original was ridicolously overpriced. Starsky Carr said it sounds almost the same to his Moog, anyway we'll see the comparison video he has coming. Very good, Behringer!

As far as the price, if you add in the cost of a real spring reverb (Behringer sells one for $200), and a decent keyboard with pitch and mod wheels (maybe $200) they're not that far apart. The Poly D retails for $600, while their Model D is about $300, so they're charging about $300 for the larger form factor. Then consider the difference in build quality. The Behringer patch points don't have panel nuts, so they will wear out a lot sooner (assuming you use them, that is). The larger size of the GM allows for larger knobs, which give you more precision when making performing. Not everyone needs all those things, but the price differential isn't all that great when you consider all the details. It's not like the huge huge difference with the model D.

I've got two three tier racks that are full. I've got drum machine and a small synth actually hooked up physically to a MatrixBrute. My organ top is full of pedal, power, and my Wifi/Modem for the house. My 19r unit could technically fit a total of 3ru but Behringer along with a alot has abandoned the 19" Rackmount Unit (please bring it back). My desk is saturated with Ham Radio hardware. I do have one Frame Work stand that hold up some hardware, but any Behringer form factor would be small.

@@synthsamuraiproductions for me Arturia have been stumbling lately. Astrolab is a joke. Some think you get to directly play and manipulate any of the models from VC9 (VCX supposedly on the way) which is NOT the case. It only plays analog lab patches and you only have access to the 4 parameters and 4 effects of that patch. If you want to edit the synth(s) in that patch you must do it on PC where you must ALSO own that VST. Then save it all into an analog lab custom patch and sync that back over where once again you now have access to ONLY those 4 parameters and effects. Plus that TINY little screen?!? FAIL. For Polybrute 12 instead they should have done a PB6 desktop module with reduced interface and polychain for well under $1500 which also means 4 part multi-timbral combine with PB6. That could have been out a year ago or more as well.

I’m talking about using another companies design and even putting the original name like model d or system 55 on the device and then not crediting the company that came up with the thing. Instead they compete with the company for sales. See their mother 32 and dfam copies. Cloning an old synth is different from cloning a current just released synth and undercutting it at half the price. Imagine if Hyundai just made Audi and Porsche clones and called them Hyundai Quattros and Hyundai 911. They looked just like the originals but they sold them cheaper and as if they were their own designs. You don’t think anyone would have any issues with that?

I think synthesizer companies have been ripping everyone off for a long long time and I think Behringer is coming in and pulling up the curtain and show how you can make great sounding synthesizers for affordable prices. Now, I also think they have milk the cloning today highest degree, and now they should pivot and start bringing out their own synthesizers with their own names. I think that people are ready for that now, so although I disagree with your opinion on behringer. I do agree that they could be way better company now if they pivoted to their own unique synthesizers like the deep mind and the neutron. I appreciate the debate its all love ❤️ my brother.
