Funny that I vaguely remember them when they opened for Godsmack at the county bowl in Santa Barbara, Ca and they did a tool cover which was good. It must have been early 2000's. Love Breaking Benjamin. But I gotta admit, I kinda liked how they sounded live better back than compared to how they sound live nowadays. They still sound good but this just sounds better to me. Bens vocals sound a lot more raspy and more similar to how he sounds on the album compare to how he sounds now.
@gntrihg3 жыл бұрын
Aside from certain things that can be applied stylistically, as an individual with how the new lineup executes some things live, the biggests part is Ben. He writes differently sober and due to long term affects from his alcoholism he just never got back to full health. Biggest downfall of their live shows is he cant sing all too well anymore and relies on Keith and Aaron Bruch to take over chunks of vocals
@TheGamingDruid2 жыл бұрын
That’s fair. Another reason that he sounds different on albums now though is just because they started using A TON of pitch correction on the albums during the phobia era, whereas the vocals are more raw on the first two albums (especially Saturate)..

Woooowwww Ben's voice is so strong here! This was way early in their career so I can only imagine then that the sadly strained and pitchy performances he gives now are a result of not looking after his voice, and his health issues can't have helped. It's a super intense style he sings in, with loads of rasp and then some screams as well. So if he didn't learn to do that sustainably then it's no surprise his live vocals have deteriorated over the years, and the last two albums are heavily autotuned :(

At least Ember is a notable improvement over DBD, it will just never have the sound of the core 3 member band, no disrespect to Hummel but at least you can replace a drummer without a major difference like what happened from 2015 on.
@stanleycopper11673 жыл бұрын
@@sega32xxx14 Really? Well, I think the drummer is the heart of a band and the music will sound very different if they change. I think Hummel was the best drummer in BB. Yes he had simpler beats but man were they really heavy. Chad, well he’s great as well but I feel he would just play the same beat over and over (maybe Ben writing the drums and not Chad had something to do in there) and then Shaun pretty much is copying Chad’s stuff.

Breaking Benjamin headlining over Coheed, Thrice, AND Thursday?? FUCK 🤯🤯🤯 EDIT: Actually, I just double-checked this on Setlist.FM, Saliva was actually the support (or headliner?) for this show, and C&C, Thrice, and Thursday were on their own tour that played the same venue the day before. Still, that would have been a sick lineup.

Before Ben got nuts and fired everyone and hired session guys for his band. These guys are from my area, i grew up seeing them do covers at bars. Arron and Mark were from lifer. Ben got sick and those guys went and remixed sum songs behind his back and got pissed and fired them all! The only guy in the new band from our area is the bass player, everyone else are hired guns.
@sega32xxx143 жыл бұрын
Yeah that whole series of events, starting with the hiatus was absolutely ridiculous and juvenile. I mean I get both perspectives, but both of his players were a completely core part of the band's sound, it is so much more of a "mainstream" or deliberate act ever since 2015, and don't get me wrong I get his perspective of why he did it, but it was the wrong decision for this band. I have a feeling the immense relief he gets from live singing nowadays with the current members was a significant factor also though, I mean his ability notably degraded only a couple years after the show depicted in this video, he certainly could use the help.
@nathonalexavier15053 жыл бұрын
In retrospect you can argue that the original lineup were “hired guns” bens stated on a few occasions that it was a strain on him having to do all the vocal work and write all the songs and that the original line up would merely write little bits of riffs and licks that he could incorporate into the songs he already wrote. his new lineup contribute by singing live and even writing/co writing songs with him.
