So, just wondering. Your premise seems to be that for the Jays to get to, let's say, 90 wins they need to bring in players whose WAR adds up to the win differential between that and the 2024 season. Does that method though apply consistently? When considering adds and subtractions during the 2023-24 off-season, can you point to a decline in total WAR accumulated across such players that equals the differential in wins between the 2023 and 2024 seasons? I'm guessing not. In which case the method hardly seems a valid metric for assessing the team's likely outcome for 2025.

This much is true. Turned team as currently constructed is adjust better than last years team. Pen is better. D is better. You have to expect Bo be much better on a contract year, same goes for Vlad although I don't see Vlad necessarily improving over last year. If Shatkins had their team in order a couple of decent FA signings would have been easy. As of now adding a bat could snag the Jays a WC spot, but that's about it.

I'm beginning to think a lot of the BS we're seeing isn't just an Atkins/Shapiro problem, but an ownership problem. I think that Edward Rogers, with as much money as he was supposedly willing to spend for Shohei, got scared with the amount of money he was commanding in the free agent market, and with this year's high market values, Rogers is getting cold feet about opening up his wallet and spending more money to lure players here over other team's offers. I'm beginning to think the reason why the Jays keep coming up shorthanded is because Atkins, as much as I don't like him, is unable to spend the money this market requires to sign players, because Edward Rogers has sticker shock and cold feet. Here's a part of what I think is going on, and keep this in mind as a point of context: Rogers has already invested $400 million on stadium renovations, so it makes me wonder if Edward Rogers is seeking "value" out of free agent signings (i.e. not spending top dollar) during a time when the free agent market is dictating that teams spend more than they would have only 2-3 years ago for the same quality of player. The player prices of two, three, four and five years ago are long gone. It's 2025 now. Unfortunately, Shohei changed the landscape of perceived value for upper level players, and not particularly in a good way. The thing I worry about most is, if I happen to be correct about Edward Rogers not willing to pay current market value to get top level players, how much longer will he continue to pinch his pennies and clutch at his purse strings while his $400 million renovation is paid off? All the while other teams constantly outbid the Jays, and we continue to sign B-grade players in a feigned attempt to become a relevant "contending team". The scary part is, the proof is in the pudding with their biggest contract to date: $150 million over 6 years for George Springer. One hundred and fifty million. That's the most this team has ever spent. We always hear about how Rogers is the second richest ownership in all of baseball, yet they perennially spend their money like a bunch of cheapskates and perennial wannabes. The thing is though, if this really is the case with Edward Rogers not willing to spend top dollar on top talent, beyond the Rogers Corporation, what other potential owners in this city have the revenue that Rogers has? This might be the best our team will ever have, and it seems like they are unwilling to do what it takes to build a winning team that we can be proud of, and to spend our hard-earned money on. Atkins and Shapiro both need to go for a lot of reasons, but I'm really beginning to doubt Edward Rogers' willingness and commitment to what it takes to win in this new era of baseball. In hindsight, if I saw all this coming 4-5 years ago, I would have MUCH preferred the $400 million be spent on making the actual team better. I could have done without the spiffy fluff job they did to Rogers Centre. Keep an eye on Edward Rogers. I'm beginning to think there's more than just Ross Atkins' and Mark Shapiro's ineptness at play. Maybe why we're not landing any free agents is because Edward Rogers is unwilling to spend the money it takes to get there.

Royals had 20 WAR from their pitchers (highest in MLB) last year. We had 0.1. Our offense was 7 WAR better than them and better than any central team. It really is the pitching staff that needs attention and rebound. Our offense needs a bat, but a Bo resurgence and Gimenez should get us back to competitive levels. Anything else, like Bregman, solidifies it. Santander helps, but doesn't guarantee anything. The difference in WAR between our lineup (batter only) from the 2021-23 team and 2024 teams was no more than 5 WAR. Bo had -WAR last year. He'll make that up alone. Yankees and Dodgers has 47 total WAR last year. We had 44-47 the 3 previous. This ain't over. They can attempt one more run with decent expectations before deciding to blow it up.
