I like this hire way more than Newmark. Mougey has a scouting background like JD, and has been through regime changes like Newmark. But the main difference is how rapid his ascension was. In 13 years he went from scout to GM. When the Broncos fired the Elway regime, Mougey was one of the few ppl retained and in 3 years went from scout to asst. GM. That's kinda nuts - not only was he retained, but the GM promoted him over his own guys until he was his right hand man. I'm sure Sean Payton had input on it since he and Glenn are close. I give it a B+, high upside hire but we wont know for sure until a year or two from now.

What I like the most about this hire is that this was made with Aaron Glenn in the room. Remember, what us Jets had over the Saints was the opportunity for a new head coach (in this case, Glenn) would bring in the guy he wants to work with.

Kudos to Woody for finally realizing he has to step back and let Glenn and GM Darren Mougey do their thing. If all the rumors are correct, kudos to Glenn to surround himself with experienced support staff like DC and OC and so on. Your only as good as the team around you. Smart, young, adaptable and creative minds. I love it. Outside the Box moves, supported by Bill Parcells himself and Sean Payton two of the best that's done this

Joe Douglas was a very good scout for the Ravens and Eagles. MacGagnan was a scout for the Texans. Sometimes it does not translate to the GM position.

Joe Douglas was a horrible GM at drafting. He drafted 40 players total from 2020 up until 2024. Out of the 40 ten are starters, 4 on defense and , 6 on offense. The rest are bust and either out of the league or no longer on this roster, or terrible backups. That's a 25% draft hit rate. It got raised to 25% only because of the 2022 draft. That's horrendous, horrible by any standards. He didn't learn one thing from Ozzie Newsome and it's ridiculous to give any credit, except bad credit from learning from Legend Ozzie Newsome. By contrast Assistant GM Ray Agnew from Detroit Lions had a hand in drafting 35 total players. All but 12 are no longer on the roster. 2021, 3 starters 1 backup drafted. 2022, 4 starters drafted. 2023 4 starters drafted, 3 backups. 2024, 1 starter, 1 backup. All 35 players are still on the roster as either starters, backups or incomplete grade because they started the season with 6 on IR. The season ended with 23 players on IR. That's a 65% draft hit rate. All the players were drafted from rounds 1-7 he found talent every round, from pick 7 all the way to pick 210. Look at the rosters and the drafts of both teams. Huge difference

Jets/Knicks fan here…listen, we have zero reason to be optimistic about anything this team does until we see tangible results…that said, to all those worried about a rookie GM hire look no further than The Knicks as an example of how a rookie GM can turn things around. Now Knicks GM Leon Rose used his connections to put the smartest people around him to guide his decisions and he listened to their voices. If our new rookie GM follows the same philosophy, then I have no problem.

Listen... nothing against Caley but let's be objective and let's play Aaron Glenn the new head coach for a minute. Jets problem over the last decade has generally NOT been what? Defense. Jets problem over the past decade generally has been what? Scoring points. If the Jets could manage an average of 21 to 23 points a game for the last 10 years, it's likely we'd have some playoff appearances, right? Therefore... remember you are Aaron Glenn and you KNOW you need to do what? Win! What wins games? POINTS. Do you really trust this teams biggest issue for LONGER than a decade to an offensive coordinator that's NEVER run an offense? I'm not sure I'd do that. I might call Doug Pedersen.(worked under Andy Reid, no? the ONLY coordinator under Reid that called his own plays from my understanding) I'd press Klint Kubiak. I'd press Norv Turners kid. I'd pray there was a Shanahan child id missed. Hiring the hot young kid with no quality qb seems like a bad recipe.

If both Glenn and Vrabel work out for their teams and you then then add in an already competitive Miami and a Buffalo that always makes the playoffs and you could soon have an AFC East that could become a nightmare. A very strong division in which you will have to scratch, claw, and bite for every single divisional win.

Woody went after Winners, and young smart people who rose to the ranks. Youth and brains who are adaptive and creative. No old foggies who are entitled. Youth and brains. Culture Builders. Bill Parcells and Sean Payton were the teachers both don't take any crap, and both know talent. GM Mougey played QB, and adapted to TE and WR in the league. Being a QB you have to be smart. He was a scout, and rose from Scout to GM in 13 years and Sean Payton isn't a lier, nor Parcells regarding Aaron Glenn and GM Mougey, they straight tell is like it is. No BS. Aaron Glenn was a Pro Bowl player here, in the league. He also rose up through the ranks, player, scout, coach. Youth and Brains and Passion for the Game. A young gm at the helm is maybe what we needed. He played a big part in turning the broncos around in short period of time. I think he can have that same effect since he's taking over a franchise that already has building blocks on both sides of the ball.

Not very knowledgeable of the GM candidates but glad someone has been selected although I'm cautiously optimistic. Last time I checked, past incumbent JD had put together one of the most talented teams in years as said by Woody himself.
