Whats funny , Before Snell signed with the Giants last year. He was looking for a longterm deal and no one wanted to offer him the contract. Even the 182 mill right now. Teams didn’t wanna give it to him but all of a sudden Dodgers said ok we’ll give u a long contract. Everyone is up and arms about it. There were plenty of times other Teams could have signed him but they didn’t...Also, Deffered contract is not exclusive to Dodgers. All MLB teams can do the same,. Actaully deffered contracts has been happening for more than 30 yrs. that's why there was a Bobby Bonilla contract.

I think it’s understandable about the deferred money case in contracts. States like California and New York have HIGH state income taxes, meaning they have to sign their players with deferred money which benefits not only the players, but the teams as well. However, states like Texas, Florida, Washington, and even Nevada have NO state income taxes, meaning players can sign with teams for fully guaranteed money, no deferred money.
@joegonzales1932Күн бұрын
Which actually puts those states/teams at an advantage in signing players. The only issue is that Florida teams do not spend, imagine all the championships the Rays could have won if they spent money on top of their player development.

Fuzzy absolutely COOKING in this episode with the based takes! I will say, the only thing that is a bit unfair about the Dodgers signing Snell is their ability to give him the huge $52 million signing bonus. On one hand I agree with you here. More teams should spend more money to make baseball awesome no matter who is playing. On the other hand I don't think it's as simple as saying "Just spend more bro." Let's say that the owner of the Brewers or something is visited by 3 ghosts in the middle of the night and he suddenly gets inspired to spend more. What players are going to Milwaukee even with the spending increase? If they spend as much as LA and NY, why wouldn't players just go to LA and NY anyway?

To me this seems like a little bit of a repeat of the early 2000s Yankees. Taking advantage of a system and spending a lot of money on players that other people don’t want to invest in. They seem to become a little complacent until Cole, but they did what the dodgers are doing now, and only now are people saying it’s ruining baseball? Dude, I love your content, and I appreciate your anger. My belief is that the owners are, by and large, not baseball fans in the same way that I am - someone who loves the game, dives into stats, has players I love to watch, and so forth. The Mets owner is the only true fan I’m aware of. The rest seem more like the team is just “a business investment”…and that’s it. And, again, I totally appreciate your anger, but that seems like it won’t change. So…what do we care about? The product on the field. How do we get that? Salary cap. Oh, and as a side note, you know what I absolutely don’t care about and find completely ridiculous that anyone cares about? “I hope that player gets his bag” No…I don’t. And neither should literally anyone except for the players. There are about 1200 MLB players. There are about 350 million people in the US. That’s about 1 ballplayer for every 300,000 people. It is, to my mind, literally insane to care about that person making as many millions as possible, like they’re “getting one over” on an owner, or that somehow it is “just” that they get that much money, etc. Like, you know how people anthropomorphize animals and sometimes act like an animal is literally a human being? People seem to do that with players, like if Juan Soto gets $80M a year, somehow it feels like all of us are getting $80M a year. It’s insane. And I think the more we can curtail the amount people care about that, that will help bring us closer to a salary cap, which will bring us closer to having a product on the field across baseball that we all love.
