One thing I like about your channel is it shows what a real cruising life is like. I like that you keep it simple and basic, no big, expensive boat and gizmos and gadgets.

I sailed a very slow yacht across Alantic 2 handed not solo. But as long as we did 60nm we were happy as we had just done 1 minute of the world. That perspective kept us sane

Yep... Ms Holly... some of the best sailing tips and real world sailing/cruising/singlehanded... I moved my boat today 1.1NM from one marina to another marina and if WHS was a fly on the wall... well... you get the picture... Notwithstanding the islands and people and the snorkeling were great and looking forward to the next adventure... Fair Winds...

Another Great Video! And I just spent an hour at your parents house in Maine, virtually, by watching James's latest Yarn video this time featuring your parents. I'm sure by now you have watched it. I didn't know your family speaks Norwegian because of an extended stay there for education for your family, etc. And your mom also speaks French. That is so good. You are so lucky to such a great set of parents. Their accomplishments are incredible including all the magazine articles and books they wrote. All your Dad wanted to do was sail,,, and he certainly got a good 20 years of travelling the globe that way. Looking forward to more videos .... Merry Christmas and best to you !

Holly, one thing I've noticed about you, following you for a few years now. You're always very cautious, taking your time, enjoying your boat, and sailing to your next destination. You have fun, and are usually relaxed. You take what the weather gives you. It goes back to what you were explaining, at the beginning of this episode. Stay safe girl! ❤️ 🙏 🌊 ⛵

I always smile when I see you have a new vid posted - and after watching it, I often think on how proud your parents must/should be. And then I think of how they raised you, with your brother and sister, on their own aquatic adventures ! What a family 🙂 (See you in a fortnight 👍) edit - P.S. Wishing you, and yours, a great Christmas and fantastic New Year adventures 😊

Cheers Holly! I love the way you can vent about the horrible weather on your passage and then step back and reset yourself to the positives of everything you are doing. I am still terribly envious of you and your journey but have finally acquired a small sailboat to begin the learning process on. Maybe in a few years I will be able to follow in your footprints and create a similar journey for myself. Until next time fair winds (and clear skies)

The last section 18:40 - 21:55 should probably go in the Sailing Channel Hall of Fame. Everyone needs to go back and watch those 4 minutes one more time. Some of the best filmmaking & a simple, seamless monologue to weave in & out of the pictures as we move through Holly's underwater world.

I am a active Single Handercruiser myself. 70 years old and deciding whether to splash my boat soon at Medana Bay Lombok or go land travelling around Indo and SE Asia until August. Then put the Anti Fouling on and sail north on my old Southern Cross 39 built near where you grew up. Good sailing to you....Kim of SV Philiosophy

Love how you make it all go… but old man harping sez, more luff tension on that new mainsail. That makes a better set, softer leech tension, and having full tension on the luff takes the loading off the individual slides by making the luff rope the loaded member. If you constantly load the slides it can tear the grommets and for sure puts extra load on the warp of the material in the sail body. A salute to your toughness and spirit. No whine on the Geck

I wont wish this on any lonesome sailor, still I'll inquire Holly. Have you had any concerning visual of nearby boats which look dodgy or Asian fishing fleets out there on the oceans? I heard once of a fishing vessel seen steaming along near flat out discharging fuel or oil into the ocean. That sailor reckoned it was to reduce the weight of surplus fuel or oil to increase the fish holding capacity? Sounds odd, but swears it true. I enjoy your videos every time I watch them. Mind you, if not I just don't watch. But still I love the fantasy you are actually living so a vicarious connection to your adventures features few more enjoyable than this one tonight. Happy travels Holly!

I was looking forward to the waterfall you alluded to. Any chance you brought a camera in a bag for when you might be alone? I am an old timer sailor and I find my photos as bad as they are from the 1970s give me great pleasure remembering the places and people that can’t be replaced. The half dozen sailors I am following are all headed out of your area, some to the Marquesas and Tuamotu archipelago. Places to avoid the coming weather in your area they say. Feeling like some sun I gathered? Worried when I saw the 7.0 earthquake in Vanuatu recently. The Cook Islands and Tonga are shaking too.

The slower your boat, the longer the passage, the more sail changes are likely. That is how it is--there is no help for it but a clean bottom and a folding prop coated with Prop-Speed helps a little. My old trimaran would average six or seven knots on most passages, but the most I ever got out of her was fourteen knots sustained speed, not just surfing down a wave. If you want more speed, without getting into forty or fifty foot hulls, more hulls seem to be the answer.
