Really interesting to follow your channel, and where you guys are now. Hat tip to Outremer for selecting you guys to journal and document their product. For those of us who potentially will become a catamaran owner someday, this kind of content really helps us in not only determining what to consider, but how the process of purchasing the boat is, and how they help customers learn their boats and how to sail them. Good job!

@TheOKellys Awesome, hope that we can get a few reviews of the marine starlink. Maybe before you leave an install, why it's different than the other dish, and subscription packages video. Then maybe a review while underway on how it's performing and why it's a game changer. And possibly some after thoughts after you make landfall. It seems like starlink is always changing for the better so getting the latest information on where it's at is always welcome.

@@carsonc1272 Look at Sailing Awen. They're posting daily videos of their Atlantic crossing. It's pretty amazing to see a 10-12 minute video EVERY DAY. You couldn't do that without Starlink. And it's good stuff. Zatara have done their usual weekly videos while at sea plus daily photo updates thanks to their Starlink. And when Nahoa was doing their crossing, they too were posting weekly videos while at sea. For a sailing vlogger it really does change the whole game. Where they once disappeared for a couple of weeks at a time, or had to work their butt off putting multiple videos in the can right before departure, they can now continue to put out content in real time while at sea.

Amazing drone shots of this beauty at speed! I had a big sigh of relief when you said you'd be taking some crew on board for your trip. I know these yachts are about as good as it gets but they can be a handful in challenging conditions as all high-performance cruisers are. It's not only prudent but absolutely necessary given the little time you had to become acquainted with her. I also think you will learn far more with experienced crew to help you than without even if the voyage ends up being largely uneventful. There's always more to learn when it comes to sailing. Glad you are feeling better and all the best for the New Year to both of you!!

Excellent footage of the cat being pushed which is just so nice Nick. Not often one gets to be able to do this and not pick up any bills if something breaks 😉 . We always think of the repair costs and tone things done a bit but we got hit in a nasty squall sailing down from Thailand to Langkawi, Malaysia just over a month ago. We had horizontal rain and 500m vis and winds sustained between 35-42 knots on the beam. Going inside was just so quiet and comfortable compared to the roar outside. Nice to have a cat that can handle these conditions …

Wow!!! Really well done. Rare lack of hubris, thoughtful, patient dialog, warmth and open-ness enable a shared excitement in both the educational and physical preparations. Can't wait to see more. The "interaction" between the staysail and the genoa sheet caused me real headaches- sailing single-handed, raising the staysail at the mast (instead of the cockpit- bad planning in my installation), 135's sheet prevents full hoist, gotta ease the sheet (cockpit), staysail flogging in 30+ TWS, yeah... I put the staysail on a Schaefer System 1100 (me: much smaller boat; you, of course, would choose a larger version- pick as large as possible to load as large a diameter furling line as possible (so nice in the hands) to a self-tailing winch) and wished I'd done it 4 years earlier. Delightful is an understatement. Now, if only I could truly safely and quickly reef the main significantly off wind in "real" conditions... Still trying different designs... Best wishes and, again, can't wait to see more!!! -Paul

Nick: "Show us the ropes" was one of the few times that that expression was used in the 21st century (by you, in this case) WHERE IT WAS ACTUALLY USED IN THE EXACT SENSE FROM WHICH THE SAYING FIRST ORIGINATED! It was a pleasure to see that little bit of etymological history in action!
@carryonsailing11 ай бұрын
Really happy for you folks! Delighted everyone is feeling ok now too. FYI sometimes bearing off the wind when the gust kicks in can bite you in the tail as its hard to predict how strong the gusts can be. Particularly with the apparent wind at 100 deg. Generally, on Apocalypse we will turn up into the wind and put in a reef depending on the conditions. It is really helpful if you have the actual apparent wind speed limits of the mast and sails. Then you are not left guessing. Safe passage folks and best wishes in the new year.

The boats are amazing. From Cannes we had 25-30+ kn true and did multiple runs above 20kn boat speed. Full main and switched between gennaker and full genoa (aws between 15-20kn) but the boat where stable, very happy and all quiet on the inside. You will have a nice run with her to Miami. The most stressful thing we have experienced is to get back into the dock in LGM..!! Enjoy and soak up every advice Marc will give you!!

The drone footage really shows what it’s like to sail on a catamaran-showing the size of the waves on the boat never captures what they’re really doing. We are cautious sailors and try to never let our sails get overpowered, but sometimes we’ll have full sails up in 20kts apparent, which is the limit before reefing in our Lagoon 380. Gusts up to 25 had me super anxious 😬 but we and the Reboot were fine because we were on a close reach in smooth seas. Our skill level isn’t anywhere near yours yet, and I am loving these videos because in a way you are doing beginner things as well because the Outremer is such a racehorse! Megan, feel better 🫶🏻 having the spicy crud (as we call it here) really sucks 😭.

Very smart decision regarding taking professional crew. To do it on your own being relatively unfamiliar with a complex and powerful boat would be foolish, ignorant and careless. What I have learned over decades of sailing is that the ocean is unemotional and passionless regarding your existence. The ocean will do what it will do and does not suffer foolishness indefinitely. The foolish eventually get caught out and it doesn't usually end up pretty. I have seen it repeatedly. Best of luck on your future adventures!
