On the whole, there is not enough post-draft content out there for players pre-NHL. I’m really happy this series is prioritizing already drafted prospects bc this is the kind of stuff that we need to see more of. Great analysis, while I think Levshnovs ceiling doesnt match his draft position, the good news for the Hawks is I think they already have an ideal defensive shield for Levshunov when he makes the NHL in Alex Vlasic. Lev is taking his punches in a level he’s probably not ready for, but I’m still definitely excited for what he can be after ~100 AHL games

Agreed, but then again...is that worth taking him at 2? 2?! Crazy to me.

This is kind of what I expected from Levshunov this season. Some spurts of good plays, showing his shot and how he can jump into the rush, but also some really brutal plays and decisions. Personally I'm not that worried, as some of these decisions can be completely or partially coached out. I remember Vlasic also hanging on to the puck too long at certain points and just trying to use his reach. I also think the system is perfect with the Blackhawks. They love their Offensive minded, good skating d-men (Levshunov, Korchinski) and their defesive Forwards (Moore, Nazar) so he will have people to stay back for him, especially if he is paired with Vlasic. I think with a few good years being coached well in the minors he will make much smarter decisions. At least thats the hope with Levshunov, as a big part of his appeal is his ability to learn quickly (Belarus League to NCAA in about a year). But I can see why you have your problems with him, even if I may disagree on his potential. But fantastic analysis as always will, please keep it up!

Im still confused how KD thought Lev was a better pick…makes alot of sense to draft a defenseman who isn’t overly physical, or even great defensively whos best attribute is pinching, prioritizing offense and possible upside but skipping the possible offensive magician, who is a dog, and drives the middle. also has a higher offensive upside and may be a legend..

Good Video and breakdown. I think we have to remember he was just drafted and is playing first year of pro hockey as a teenage Dman. Its way to early to call him a 2nd pair guy, Im gonna go with the NHL scouts who picked him at 2nd overall too be a first pair guy, now again very fair pts you pointed out but hopefully alot of this stuff is out of his game in 2 or 3 years!

@KDXL6537NJoy he very well could. That's the thing about him he has the tools to be. But he's a dman and dmen take a few years to develop unlike forwards. What a brutal pick by Davidson, Levshunov is not looking like he is anywhere near NHL caliber. Heck, he barely looks like a top 4 D in the AHL. I honestly feel like the Hawks made a mistake picking him and I've so far not seen anything that has made me think otherwise.
@bryantlawson62706 күн бұрын
Bro how new are you to hockey? He's a defenseman. They almost never are NHL ready coming out. Takes a few years to develop the pro game. Potential and raw ability is everything in dmen prospects. He definitely looks like he belongs out there on AHL ice as a 19 year old. So no it's not a brutal pick. But you will have to wait on the finished product
@Lebowski5511 күн бұрын
Levshunov reminds me of a young Boris Mironov but not as menacingly physical; wild, chaotic at times, rover, all over the ice. But pretty dynamic and offensively inclined.

Still pissed we took this kid over Demidov. We need offensive scoring and elite level talent. He’s just not there. He’s lazy, low iq plays and awareness not elite on defense or offense. It’s a Seth jones 2.0. He’s also too afraid to block a shot. Idk if that’s just him coming back from his broken foot or what but wow. Jumps out of the way to block a shot not once but twice and one of them lead to a goal.

This is the pick that will get KD fired. #2 pick should be your top dman or top line scorer. Middle pair or number 2 on a contending team isn’t good enough.

IK the draft year isn’t as strong, but I look at last year at Fantilli and Carlsson who both could’ve gone 2nd and compare them to Levshunov. They just aren’t the same calibre. Lev just isn’t that higher echelon of player that goes 2nd OA.

Based on the first 5mins and your critique, the Hawks wasted their first round pick this year. @ I get that I want him to be good but Duncan Keith also was praised widely around about being a generational talent. Not only that he had the compete level. Lot of scouts had him in the 12 range. A project because he's right handed. Personally I would of traded up with Montreal and took Inginla. . Demedov is hard to gage but most scouts agree he was the best player second pick. You always take the best player. Inginla was rated third and probably a cant miss. Davidson blew the ist round of the draft. Did not care for any of his picks. Dickinson and Buiem though left handed will be the best Defenceman. Levshunov will will never be a no 1 Defenceman.
@bryantlawson62706 күн бұрын
Dickinson lacks offensive ability/talent. Hes a good defensive guy with a lethal shot. Good but levshunov has more potential. Buium has everything to me besides size. Could be the dman of the draft. If levshunov develops though he was the pick. Hes a young dman so give him time to develop. And Iginla is definitely not the 3rd best prospect in this draft as much as I love Tij
