Extremelyboi The gamer Yes, I know the definition. Good rebuttal. Anyways, liking furry anthropomorphic animals isn’t the most masculine thing, bordering feminine. If you can’t handle the fact that people have a hobby and interests that aren’t the norm, then you need to learn to become a better person. Also, Lion King features anthropomorphic animals (animal characters with human characteristics). One of the base human characteristics is our ability to communicate in our languages. They talk Lion King, therefore, they are anthropomorphic. Next you’re gonna say Bojack Horseman is shit because it’s “furry”

While having constant CGI in anime is typically horrible, it does help that Beastars has anthropomorphic characters and limited action. With having the characters be animals, viewers don't get an uncanny valley feeling from watching the show. And the action sequences either happen quickly or are used very little. Which overall doesn't make it as jarring as if we saw a series involving humans

Like the engines and actuators and other parts have to work hard to make that massive machine move. It helps convey a sense of scale especially when there is nothing near them to compare to. I didn't really get that feeling I get with Gundem sometimes or even moments of evangelion where they look like tiny action figures.

with so many good 3d anime and really creative abuse of the medium that doesn't limit itself with the weakness of 2d anime but rather use 3D with its benefits like free use of camera, not having to draw each character frame by frame, etc., it gets really obvious that there are some transitioning period happening this era of anime. I wouldn't be surprised with so many 3D anime releasing by 2021

Anime and animation in general has been transitioning to CG since around 1990s so it's not really new thing, but nowadays we are seeing pendulum swinging effect that's happening to Western animation where more 2D animated contents are growing and getting more buzz than CG, like Netflix Castlevania and Klaus movie. While I'm impressed by the CG animation in Beastars for a CG anime series, I can't help but wanting to see the show in hand-drawn animation given it sometimes switches between 3D and 2D.

Ryan The Animator: Yeah, idk why OP is talking about it like it's a good thing 3DCG is rising. Nothing is better than 2D animation even if it takes hard work. When competent and passionate people with enough time animate, there's nothing more beautiful and organic to look at. What I see happening, and maybe it's already begun, is Japan going too far and producing more and more anime in full 3DCG as a way to cope with the horrid conditions animators work in. To make more stuff in less time even if the result can't compare to what hand-drawn 2D animation could've achieved. I love Orange because they actually tried to make something good though, and I love what they did with BEASTARS in terms of music and voicework, directing like it was a play so every character sounds like an actual person instead of a cringy anime archetype. Visually speaking, the body language made me SO happy. But I'll always wonder how incredibly beautiful this show could've been had it been animated like Doukyuusei or Saint☆Oniisan to honor the expressive manga style. Well. At least my other favorite modern manga (Mob Psycho 100) got animated by my favorite studio. And Orange certainly did a great job with what they had, as I said before. But yeah. I don't think I'll ever stop wondering what if...

Raccoon Child I prefer if both medium, CG and Hand-drawn animation, can coexist together instead of one replacing another. We saw what happened to Western theatrical animated movies going full CG, but 2D still thrives on TV/Streaming landscape and occasionally 2D movies came out like Klaus. 2D anime won’t go away anytime soon given there’re still demands for them, but also there are lots of animators and artists who cherish their jobs working in 2D animations. It’s not like everyone like to study and work in CG animation just because it’s less time consuming. Learning to do CG animation can also be a hassle and might not feel as rewarding as others. Those People saying all animation should be CG have no idea how the two formats have so much differences that one shouldn’t replace another but instead work together to create more contents for people who likes variety. Sure, the working condition in Japan anime studios is bad, but doesn’t mean the animators don’t love what they do. Doing hand-drawn animation can be fun and rewarding and it’s an art form that should be preserved for generations.

@@raccoonchild I'm just saying 3D has advantages to 2D than most people think, it's just that some are better in using it than most studios. What 3D can't persuade me right now is Hand Drawn Action Fights which is more pleasing than 3D fights like that of Kimetsu no Yaiba. Studio Orange and Polygon persuaded me that good storytelling and directing of 3D anime can be as good as 2D but there are few shonen (my genre) 3D anime fights that can capture my eye. However, with the release of promare I'm starting to like 3D anime fights (if its done well I suppose)
