Did you ever hear the tragedy of Dark Bishop Caspar the Wise? I thought not. It is not a story the Casuals would tell you. It is a SOYO legend. Dark Bishop Caspar was a level 20 unit of the Black Eagles, so powerful and so wise he could influence the RNG script to create acceptable hit rates... He had such a knowledge of The Meta that he could even keep the ones he cared about from missing. The meme side of The Meta is a pathway to many strategies some would consider to be... unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught Dark Mage Seteth everything he knew, then Seteth killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

God I love this series… it’s so nice to have ppl still talking about 3h; this game became my favorite over the last 3+ years and I’ve put well over 4k hours into it. Love this series itself too, I think you have a really unique setup for observing units and I just love hearing your thoughts. Thanks for the episode today!!

Also I find it super super endearing? I guess? That I still learn new things from the series and just your content after multiple years and thousands of hours. It’s awesome

Thank you so much ;-; I really appreciate the kind words so much
I feel like Caspar is a perfect example of really bad game balancing, particularly compared to Felix (The other strong man with a boon in Brawling). Caspar has a lower base in: Strength, Magic, Dex, significantly less Speed and Char, while having more Luck, Res and Def. And then on the growths Felix has 10% more Strength and Speed while Caspar only has 10% more HP. Top this with him only having a bane in Authority, a Bow boon and a Crest with a 40% activation rate and things don't really seem so fair. This is really jarring to me because more often than not I feel like the game does a really good job at translating a character's role and presence in the world into the gameplay. Be Dmitri with his uncontrollable strength or the fact that the three main healers all have different strategies (Efective usage of turns, more defensive maneuvers that prolongue the battle and "Who gave the Bishop a gun?"), so the fact that the "Born Fighter" whose dad is one of the strongest men in Fodlan and who spends all of his free time training, only has a 45% strength growth (Which is only 5% over LORENZ) is really weird to me.

Felix has crest privilege simple as that. It sucks that Caspar is clearly worse than everyone else in the group especially when compared to other units who you can get to use brawling like Felix or Balthus or Byleth.... it isn't like Caspar is unusable thank goodness

Caspar is based as fuck. Not only is he a badass, but he also has access to a ridiculously high crit rates late game.

You gotta feel bad for Caspar, dude is trying his best but always comes up short. I guess it makes sense for him to be underwhelming in gameplay, since narratively he's considered less than stellar
@OttyDoo2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. But he actually has his uses he makes a good fortress knight, war monk, and hero class. Thes3 classes helps his stats and growths overall in different ways. Loved using him though.

Surprisingly not my Caspar, my rng with him was good. On my NG CF Maddening run I planned to sideline him from the beginning and kept him in Armored Knight for the fun of it and a Guard Adjutant. But then I sent Caspar through Ingrid's Paralogue and suddenly rngesus smiled on him so he kept getting Speed and Strength boosts repeatedly, along with Defense boosts of course. It pretty much fixed his stats issues so I changed plans a little and frontlined him. He became my tank, my wall. Authority was a pain but he did way better than I expected as a Fortress Knight/War Master. Also Wild Abandon kept on hitting, woo!

Thank you for doing these individual unit analysis videos. Three houses has so much going on, nice to have a central point to reference for characters. (Abilities, weapons, skills, battalions, crests, classes, etc)

The only time I’ve ever used Caspar was on my very first playthrough of this game. 3H was my very first FE game, and I didn’t want to get stuck halfway through, so I played on normal. I picked Blue Lions, and the only reason I recruited him was because I felt like I was using too many mages and wanted another physical unit. He was unironically amazing, which makes me want to use him again, but I unfortunately don’t expect him to hold up well in maddening. Still, I have very fond memories of this character, and I’ll probably find a way to use him in my next playthrough of Silver Snow maddening.

Caspar for me always went down the canon/ more well-known route of fighter to brigand etc. but with a little bit of care and a lotta lucky levels he literally always became a lategame crit god for me, far exceeding the strength of most of my other units, except for characters like Byleth or Dimitri. with how many times I've been able to make him good I think he's become one of my favorites to turn zero to hero
@Korhi2 жыл бұрын
I don't think I've ever had a Caspar preform well. He almost always ends up screwed in a stat for me for whatever reason and basically sits on the sideline until he masters grappler and just clicks fierce iron fist on things I want dead.
@leewalker82072 жыл бұрын
Hero Caspar was great for me with vantage from the class, wrath, sword + axe prowess, and axe + lance breaker. Lots of flexibility with wo Dao+ and killer axe+ with very little investment needed.

Like I said before, I love units that are considered bad by the community. But the thing is, I still refuse to consider Caspar a bad unit. Maybe I’ve been incredibly lucky, but in the 1500 hours that I have put in this game, he has not once been disappointing. And I’ve used him as Warrior, Wyvern Lord, Hero, Grappler, War Master, Great Knight, among others. Honestly, he’s one of my favorite characters in the game. During my very first playthrough, I went Blue Lions, but I really wanted Linhardt, because I knew he was a gay option and I wanted to marry him. When I found out he was best friends with Caspar, I decided I wanted him, too (I didn’t want to separate them). The funny thing is, I was a complete noob the first time, so went into the final fight with many units not even promoted to Advanced Classes lmao. During that battle, Caspar (that had no other investment than fighter-brigand-warrior, without mastering any of them) CARRIED my army. Since then, there have only been a few playthroughs where I didn’t recruit him.

My build for Caspar makes him a beast. Here it is. Brawl prowess Brawl crit +10 Brawl avo +20 Hit+20 Quick riposte And war master with bombard and killer knuckles he basically kills everything in his path. And for EP he dodges most things thrown at him and he doesn’t get doubled with quick Riposte

I like using Caspar as a tank in the early game, Most other early game units have even lower defense and his personal skill works really well with it.

have you thought of recruiting and forming a full muscle-head team? i am playing FE for the first time, just reached chapter 10, and noticed my few mounted units are far outperforming the ground and magic units. can't say if that is because my mounted units are advanced classes or it is the mounts getting my guys to move further and hit more units for more exp. i am thinking of making a full team like that for meme's sake.

You've got defiant crit(50 extra) on screen near the end there and don't mention it. Wyv Lord might actually not need a battalion at all- if he has 2 different +50 crit sources.
@IntrusiveThot4202 жыл бұрын
😭 poor caspar, another victim of the massive difficulty spike at the start of the game and his crappy start. Oh yo jonoabbo, have you ever tested out axe crit ignatz? Buy him a devil axe for ch2 and you can bring an extra physical nuke to the early game on top of your steel lance users 😂 then you just run him through the typical War Master path, and slap on battalion vantage (since he doesn't really need bat wrath to crit in the endgame) and voila, another dual-phase monster. Because you can hit killer weapons before your party gets to lv20, ignatz actually becomes a crit monster with Smash faster than with Hunter's Volley.
