Honestly the running away was probably the best option in this scenario. She got hit hard and it made her turn away, she was in no position to scramble for a takedown or do any offensive move, running away at least gives her space to possibly reset. But in her panicked/hurt state she ran into the cage and Dumont was right behind her ready to continue her barrage.
@Matt_Wilson01
@Matt_Wilson01 10 ай бұрын
Seen plenty of fighters run to create distance for a reset but Chelsea sprinted until the cage caught her, but like you say Michael we aren’t the ones in there so who are we to say too much, she is def handling it the right way by laughing at herself

All great points Michael! A good reminder that all fighters, no matter what rankings or promotion are first and foremost human beings. You fighters exhibit an astronomical amount of courage and deserve, at worst, a modicum of respect for that reason alone. I can understand fans supporting their favorite fighters but to me, it’s heinous to see fans booing fighters who are laying it out on the line. Where is the empathy in these folks?!

I think it was she got hit with a combo she wasn't ready for and was hoping she could get a little distance and reset but her opponent, nor the cage allowed for it. Pretty much a fight/flight situation where the body acted on instinct without being fully competent of the surroundings. Overall I think it's fine to poke fun and do some jokes at current events. But unless she was cocky/arrogant I think it should just flow in the wind as one of the bloopers over her career, as all fighters have like Mike implied.

1000% this is the correct take. fight or flight, she needed a second to get some space and decided to just book it. obviously its a funny thing to happen in a fight, she acknowledges it herself.

Im all for poking a little fun but im glad mike brought up the point of not harshly judging someone unless you've been in their shoes. One of my biggest pet peeves is when my fellow mma fans (most of whom have never had to fight for their lives) troll a fighter endlessly for things like making an occasional mistake inside the octagon, being a grappler instead of a brawler or even just being a woman competing in mma. I can guarantee most of the potbellied keyboard warriors trolling her wouldn't survive 15 minutes in the cage with chelsea.

Only the small-minded make a deal out of someone running for a second or two in a fight. Sometimes it's the most effective option to buy the time you need to regroup and not lose your fight. Good on Michael for setting the record straight about why this might happen.
