Great video! I value your positivity and excitement for the possibilities with MK9, especially since you’ve been in the scene for a long time. I personally think that a lot of people still have the preconceived notion that Mario Kart must be played with 12 people because it always has - hence, why I can understand some of the doubt for MK9’s success in this time of excitement. People are naturally afraid of change. But change does bring about the best of us, and I hope the community can find a lot of joy in the new format. Plus, if the old format is still their thing, it’s a good thing that a lot of Mario Kart games are still out there, always available to play.

I agree with your points. The game will be very different so you cannot think about how 24 players races would be if implemented in games like Mario Kart Wii and 8 Deluxe (we can already have a taste of this thanks to Mario Kart Wii mods, and of course it doesn't work super well not just because of hardware limitations but also because the game itself with the tracks and the item system is not suited for that). You points about competitive are also fair, and I would like to add that I think it would be fine if Clan Wars had an alternative format (8v8) instead of just 12v12, so that would help clans lacking on players. Personally my biggest concern about 24 players is the item system. In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe the item system is mostly fine, besides some things like the group division in the mid-pack making 5th and 8th place very bad for items, also Golden Mushroom and Triple Mushroom being obtainable together in the item slots is straight up dumb. There are also too many projectiles in the mid-pack... and don't get me started on Red Shell probability for 2nd place. The concept itself of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe item system is actually perfectly suited for 24 players, but we will need way more (and more balanced) placement groups, also items like Mega Mushroom and POW Block would be perfect reintroductions as they are overall weaker versions of their "bottom place" counterparts (Star/Bill and Shock respectively). Mega Mushroom in particular would be a perfect replacement for the Piranha Plant (which is a dumb and unreliable item that doesn't really work for double items) and Boo (double the players, double the RNG, no thanks), and would be a way more balanced item than the Star for top spots very distant from 1st (cannon glider moment). Items like Fire Flower and Boomerang would also need some sort of rework/adaptation to make them less spammy and more strategic, since otherwise they would become a major problem for such a stacked 24-player mid-pack. If Nintendo cooks well, Mario Kart 9 can actually have the potential to have the most fun and balanced item distribution in the entire series.

I'm going to guess that with the increase to 24 racers, there'll be a return to only 1 item slot. I'm thinking this as 24 players with double items would be too chaotic/spammy, the gameplay we've seen has them entering the 2nd or 3rd lap with the first row of item boxes being singles only, and 1 item slot would massively help alleviate bagging due to no longer being able to hold 2 power items at once. Although if they also bring back the coin, at least let us defend with it.

my issue is that many people already are on a team, and wouldnt wanna leave that for another and it already is a nightmare to get 6 people around the same skill level, i understand the hype for a new game but i dont think 12v12s are all the fun you think it will be

I actually genuinely think that the new Mario Kart won't replace Mario Kart 8 Deluxe entirely, rather will compliment as a unique way to play. I think it will add to the casual and competitive experience, and people will still enjoy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe formats. I could be wrong on this, it depends how much nintendo puts into this game to match or even exceed what MK8 Deluxe currently offers. (I'm also being hopeful bc I won't be able to get a Switch 2 and I'd hate to be left behind D:)
