The reason we seem to know so little about what makes a QB prospect a great player at the next level is because the #1 factor is the situation at the team they go to.
@travisoshea11 ай бұрын
Very true and to actually know how a prospect will be mentally. That’s something that no scout or expert has been ever to know and no one will ever know how someone handles any position and how they handle day to day life of the NFL
@ericfitzsimmons987311 ай бұрын
I'm not sure about that... prior to the season this year I remember a couple analysts saying the Texans were the 1 team you could completely eliminate from playoff contentions.. Lawrence and Andrew luck went to awful situations but they showed flashes. You can mostly tell if a qb is going to be elite or not no matter where they go. I believe the most important thing in a QB is do they have that dog in them ? At the NFL level everyone is super talented but when you look at guys like Trevor Lawrence, Justin Herbert, and Josh Rosen they are all on record saying football isn't the most important thing in their life and it's a spot they lack in the leadership department. When you look at guys like patrick mahomes, Tom Brady, Joe Burrow those are the guys you can tell are 1000% committed into football and winning. You can see the extra fire in their eye and the way they act and how they want 100% execution on every play. To me this is the biggest factor into what makes a QB elite. I'm not saying it's 100% amd ofcourse everyone wants to win but just look at the attitudes of the Bonifide elite QBs in the league compared to the rest. I'm not saying situation doesn't matter because ofcourse it does I just believe the leadership and love/fire/desire is what's most important.
@christr1ut8711 ай бұрын
@@ericfitzsimmons9873 Those couple analysts were obviously not correct. The Texans were not a bad team that was made good by the rookie QB. The rookie was good but so were a bunch of other things that were new this year. Andrew Luck went to a team that was good but just played an entire season with a QB who actually could not play in the NFL. They were only a year removed from being a great team.

Bryce Young: 5'10" / 185lbs, slightly above average arm, above average mobility. The Panthers invested heavily on a NFL QB outlier to the extreme. It shouldn't surprise anyone that an outlier had an extreme outcome. Anyone who thought otherwise was not thinking.

Anyone who thought otherwise watched him play football. Young had great accuracy, phenomenal anticipation, and was insane under pressure. He was in a horrible situation, and I expect his play to take a fairly significant jump with a new head coach and money invested in the players around him.

He didn't deal with pressure well before the Georgia game. That's why that game became a talking point. However I get your point, he was throwing it well in every other game aswell.
@codyb.301511 ай бұрын
Partially Because that Georgia team was the closest team to a real NFL team he played his whole career. Idk what you mean by talking point tho, not like his draft positioning was effected by that 1 game. The average cfb has their own team and doesn't watch every Ohio State game. This one happened to be in CFB playoff, so it had much more attention, understandably so.
@codyb.301511 ай бұрын
@@donaldsimmons4526 The worry was that he had such a good team around him that it was harder to evaluate what he would do with lesser talent. And it's not like he ever dropped to QB3 in any draft talk even well before that Georgia game, so idk these people you're referring to that acted like he was bad or something. And if you're referring to taking Bryce, hindsight is 20/20. I liked CJ more than Bryce due to size, but Bryce was the general consensus 1 for months leading up to the draft. For every "I knew he was going to be a star" there's plenty of busts because tons of QBs who've played fantastic in college have faltered in the NFL.

As a Packers fan I would be shocked with OT/IOL in the first round. Far more pressing needs in the secondary, and the success evaluators have had in GB at finding impact guys in the later rounds makes it very unlikely in my opinion. I think GB is very comfortable going into 2024 with Walker/Jenkins/Myers/Rhyan/Tom with competition for those starting guys in the third round onward. There's also a big question mark when it comes to the DC - what style defense are they going to be running, what kind of defensive players fit in the new scheme. Lot of important things to figure out at Lambeau before April 25.

Sams right about Dallas Turner too. Turner's tape is shit. Hes got no real technique to speak of and no plan. And the idea that "well I can teach you how to rush the passer on the next level" is what gets GMs fired after drafting upside bust after upside bust. These kids have had the best coaching available to them at every level of football. The assumption that you can just teach them these skills that are glaring weaknesses is a myth. A lot of people have already tried and failed over and over. Take the kid with the skill and technique, its easier to add muscle than build skill this far into it
