I studied with Scott back in 95 at MI and a lot of his outside playing is like just picking wrong notes on purpose and finding a resolution in time. It is literally an art in playing out and resolving at the right time and then going back out. He was great at that!

And a nice fellow (funny dude) Had the pleasure of taking a lesson from him over Zoom,about a year and a half ago. Explained the use of the lydian dom scale over blues/rock...in a way that i could understand. Much the same as your lesson. Cheers 😁

Check Vital Tech Tones with Steve Smith & Victor Wooten for another OMG fusion blast as well, they released 2 albums together 💜 Maybe my favorite solo is on Big Girl Blues, where he just goes off on an unconventional 12 bar format (and I don't even like the blues!)
