They are sacrificing their feet , leg ligaments, muscle 's etc, etc as a young person. Which is really sad . That's why you don't see them in their 30, 40, 50's, etc dancing. Give her a rose as she beats her body up & the rich get richer at these concerts. Great let her ruin her body, not my daughter's or son.

@annapachaclarke2392 I understand what you are getting at. However, Ms O'Sullivan did not post this short, the Royal Ballet did, and I think the RB should be courteous enough to give due credit to its dancers and at least give their full name and title in the description. What's wrong with, "I'm Anna-Rose O'Sullivan, and I'm a Principal dancer at the Royal Ballet, London".

People say that dancers aren’t strong - that dance isn’t a sport. But coming from a dancer, I can truthfully say that in order to dance, you have to be strong. Going en pointe hurts and needs lots of strength. Doing leaps and turns needs strength, core muscles, and good balance. Thank you for showing us how strong ballerina have to be to dance this gorgeous dance!

I love that she uses square toe shoes (as opposed to the pointed toe), part of the reason she can endure what she’s talking about. Definitely helps. The ones that come to a point? I don’t know how anyone dances in those at all, but some ballerinas prefer them. My guess is, one reason is how they look to the audience. More delicate, too, some people think these are boxy. Also, the pointed shoes are the original type of toe shoe from the 1800s. I wouldn’t care, these shoes would be just fine! I like the look of these better anyway, as a dancer and as an observer.

@@cutehollygolightly You basically have injured toes, ruptured ligaments, most of the times very badly injured knees and pretty bad back pain. The thing with ballet is, while you’re young and healthy you don’t notice all of it, but once you became older, all the pain from knee and toe restraints and thigh stretches that went too far will come back. Plus, most ballerinas also have mental health problems and such due to strict teachers and intense training. I was always told that any professional athlete has some sort of injuries related to their activities and it applies to ballerinas as well, unfortunately.

It's so fascinating how they can make something so painful seem so delicate. We see the pretty ballet dancers and we don't even think about how their feet must be hurting. Ballet dancers will always have my admiration. I did ballet for 13 years (I'm 19 so that's most of my life lol) but never felt good enough and stopped because of my very low self-esteem, but I wish I had continued. It was my dream and I gave up :( But I still enjoy watching those beautiful and hardworking ballet dancers do their amazing jobs. This will forever be so special to me

One of the hardest ballet choreography ever to exist imho. The supporting leg... 1. Balance 2. Hold onto someone's hand, which can make slight shift at your core 3. A slow turn with the other person Repeat with 3 other guys, and keeping the supporting leg firm all throughout with the working leg is bent at the back, and then finally, it ends. Difficult to master for even the most seasoned dancer. That is strength, stamina and control in action. And some still think ballet is just about being on your toes, and men (traditionally), don't have to balance on their toes, but the turns and leaps looks like they are levitating. Definitely athletic. And beautiful to watch.

I never did ballet growing up and during covid began some online adult lessons from Everyday Ballet. I had no idea how much strength and intention everything requires. EVERYTHING. Even standing requires a lot of thought 😆 Stand tall, shoulders down, head up like it’s being pulled from a string, activate your core (which my PT taught me it’s like a Keagle exercise with your bellybutton facing backwards so I do that) Arms loose and elbows out. KEEP SHOULDERS DOWN. When pointing toe aim with pointer toe. When on toes don’t lean in pinky, use pointer toe/inner foot. All this and more I haven’t even imagined to simply stand and point your foot. Ballet dancers are incredible. If you’ve never taken a class, I definitely recommend trying a quick free online one just to have your mind blown 🤣. Also wanted to add: I never realized that the leg doing the movement isn’t the one that’s doing the most work. It’s the standing leg because that’s what’s holding you up. Which - duh - I feel like that should be common sense. But since I came in knowing nothing, it was a huge yet really cool surprise. My legs are full on jelly after a class

The music of "The Nutcracker" is from another space. I had the greatest pleasure to watch and listen to it two times around Christmas a couple of months ago. I hadn't watched it before and concidered it as a huge miss. The two performances were incredible, I was crying with tears and was feeling so indescribable. Later I watched the other two ballets by Pyotr Tchaikovsky - "Sleeping Beauty" and "Swanlake" - and they all are nothing less than masterpieces, but "The Nutracker" wins my heart undoubtedly. Every music lover should watch it live by all means.

I have have had calf cramps/foot cramps just by repetitive deeds sometimes and it is awful in pain and sometimes can leave you sore! I have deep Respect/Honor to those who perform such deeply muscular feets with grace and dignity.🧚‍♀️

I miss doing ballet. I was never any good- and I'm hypermobile in all my joints, including my feet, so there's *no way* I ever could've done Pointe- but it was so fun and gave such a satisfying feeling after a performance or even just a class. 😢

I remember getting my first pointe shoes. I was absolutely thrilled! I didn’t realize what torture chambers they are for the feet! My big toe nail turned black and fell off. I wouldn’t trade that time for the world!
