I love fishing spinnerbaits. It and any shallow-mid reaction fishing is my favorite way to fish. Several other soft plastics that have don't too much resistance and make great trailer for burning (or for that matter in most spinnerbait situations) are Deps deathadder shad and OSP HP 3D wacky, HP minnow and action trailer.

Thanks, Ben and Jeff I always learn something new from watching your vids. Love the way you talk, "then shit just goes wrong," lol. So do you still suggest a 1/2 oz for us bank fishing guys?
@davide.81763 жыл бұрын
3/4-1oz. SV-3 17-20lb line. 3/4 will roll less, keep your rod tip up, burn parallel to bank and past visible cover. Use basic zoom spinnerbait trailer will give you a little lift with less drag and a short trailer hook.

I’ve seen KVD constantly snapping his rod tip while burning a spinner bait. He said the exact same thing you guys are mentioning here. Getting those blades to clack together is a big time strike inducer.

I know this is a old video but I have to wonder if burning a 1oz HP double colorodo to stay in the upper water column without jumping out of the water.. . I only wonder this because I spazzed out during a BOGO and added to cart a 1oz high pitch d.Colorado that I have no clue when a scenario will present itself that fits this spinnerbait. It's a good looking bait though. It'll look good on the garage wall until I'm yo-yoing in some gin-clear 40 ft deep water. Thanks for the video. I've been doing a deep dive in the old hookups

If you were going to do this in a small lake/big pond that doesn’t have shad and bluegill is the main forage what color would you go with
@thehookuptackle_usa3 жыл бұрын
I'd probably do a bluegill pattern if the water is clear, or a natural greenish tone. If the water is murky I'd probably do a chart/white combination.

Would the Levantine tour versatile make a good rod for this technique?
@thehookuptackle_usa3 жыл бұрын
Yes. It’s pretty fast so you need to keep that in mind to not set the hook.
@johnjenkins523 жыл бұрын
@@thehookuptackle_usa I could probably use mono to help slow down the tip as well
@paoslee3 жыл бұрын
I have the levante tour versatile and while it does work for spinnerbait, I find the action too stiff for a spinnerbait. I use it mainly for football jigs. The p5 dark sleeper would be better for spinnerbait. In the levante line up, maybe the brailist or spec r. I dont own those yet but maybe they have a softer tip. You want a rod that you can feel the blades spinning. The T. Versatile is just too stiff to feel the blades spinning in the water.

Pretty funny that Ben mentions gobies in the video about burning spinnerbaits. I can’t imagine a worse goby imitation except for maybe a topwater lol. Gobies don’t have swim bladders and they hug the bottom and scoot around even when in distress. Still a great video and burning spinnerbaits definitely catches smallmouth in goby waters
@thehookuptackle_usa3 жыл бұрын
A spinnerbait doesn't look like anything in reality - it's wire and steel, and skirt. It's solely a reaction bait. So if fish are feeding on other fish, including gobies, a spinnerbait can be a good option. I'm not saying I'd fish for goby eaters in 40 feet burning a spinnerbait, but there's plenty of shallow goby eaters that a spinnerbait can trigger 👍
@jamesh74693 жыл бұрын
@@thehookuptackle_usa yea I guess it depends how much you subscribe to the match the hatch philosophy. In my head a smallie definitely thinks it’s a smelt, alewife or emerald shiner if it’s moving fast, high and flashy
@thehookuptackle_usa3 жыл бұрын
@@jamesh7469 I catch smallmouth all the time on spinnerbaits that aren't feeding on any bait - only craws. They just have to be positioned correctly and of the right aggressiveness for the burning to work. It's not always the right answer, but when they eat it it's a blast!

Do you think this would work at Baccarac in early December? I have trouble translating/comparing our seasons with theirs.
@thehookuptackle_usa3 жыл бұрын
That's going to be pre-spawn/spawn down there. So probably slower retrieve - but you always have to be prepared for anything! I've had my best success on that lake relating to bottom and slower that time of the year, but if there's a lot of small tilapia in the shallows, paralleling banks with the fast spinnerbait can crush them.
