Another one of your really great videos and I've watched a few of them, lol. I've now worn Philips 9030 HA for more than a year. I started out at 80% of the initial REM settings and I've currently at 90% and about to increase that to 100% finally. I've had to do some of my own programming to taylor my music program to my guitar playing and have two programs that still preserve some of the nice high frequency sounds of my guitars without the harsh distortion, shrillness and note doubling I experienced with just the general or music program. In short I've turned off all the noise reduction, feedback control and directionality. At the advice of another musician I've also adjusted the compression ratios to 1.3 which while probably not the perfect solution helped a lot. And I've had to reduce the overall gain by about 4-6 dB a well. Of course this isn't great for speech but it works while probably still not being optimal for my guitar playing. I've got open domes and typical cookie cutter loss that is as high as -65 to -70dB. Again none of this is probably optimal but it's much better for me. My question is that I'm interested in getting or at least trying Widex HA this year with a $3K HA benefit I now have. I want to see how the shorter delay times might help. But I'm concerned that since I know my hearing when I remove my HA is far worse than it was normally since my brain is no longer used to working as hard to hear....how can an accurate re-test be done? Or should I not wear the HA for the week before a re-test? Thanks.

I have a question, there is an instance of a patient resulting to a "mixed profound hearing loss" (both conductive and SNHL) on the left ear and tympanogram suggestive of a Type A, normal conductive hearing, on the left ear as well. Since the AC and BC suggests a conductive pathology on the left ear and tympanogram normal which eliminates conductive pathology of the patient, what could be other ways or have a conclusive interpretation of the hearing status of the patient if PTA and Tymp does not correlate? Is the speech in noise test always done or do you need to request it? I have had hearing tests and it was not performed. I asked for it to be done with the last audiologist and he told me he didn't have time to do it during that apt. I felt dismissed as if he didn't even care about my hearing. I bought my hearing aids there and this is the beginning of my 2nd year wearing them. To switch audiologists would mean I would need to pay each time I go in for service. Now, I get my hearing aids serviced for free since I bought them there.
@DrCliffAuD4 жыл бұрын
Audiologists who follow Best Practices will perform Speech in Noise testing even if you don't request it. If you do request it and they still don't do it, the question becomes: What other things are they NOT doing that they SHOULD be doing?
@jerrodlind50844 жыл бұрын
Would the audiologist provide the test as part of your current agreement with them? With the technologies of today (since digital) adjustments can still be made. Also, if SIN has not been performed, did you get Real Ear Measurements performed? @Doctor Cliff, AuD has respectfully beat that necessity in my head - both can still be done (assuming the current audiologist has the equipment for REM). Please do not settle, you may need to push a little, just do not be afraid to advocate for yourself. You very likely paid a lot of money for the service - and if you do not get the service you deserve, be certain to share your thoughts via a review of your experience, this will help others make decisions and maybe influence a change in the practice for the future.
