Yup, once she and lane made amends Mrs Kim went to great lengths to show her support for lane. From getting the band a whole summer tour, helping zack write a hit song, leaving lanes wedding early so that she could be free to have fun and lastly making sure lane got to have her baby shower- mrs Kim has shown she loves lane so much, and was willing to change in some ways and make their relationship better ❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰

I think the difference between Emily and Lorelei and Lane and Kim is that Lane and Kim had a mediator ( Lorelei) who helped bridge the gap between Lane and Kim. She would let Mrs. Kim know when she was being a bit too strict and she’d let Lane know when she was being a bit too rebellious and she’d encourage both to listen to one another. I also think while Mrs. Kim didn’t agree with Lane’d initial decisions when she moved out, she did have pride that her daughter was living life on her own terms but with strong morals.

In the scene where Lane tries to compromise with her mom, she’s wearing a blue sweater with rainbow stripes on the sleeves. It’s almost the same as one Lorelei wears in season 1 when Rory breaks up with Dean. Similar, but not the same, just like Lane and Lorelei. Both are oppressed by their parents strict rules, their independence shining through like the rainbow on their sleeves, the only difference is that Mrs. Kim genuinely made the rules to protect Lane and came around when Lane showed she could take care of herself without them, whereas Emily wanted to mold Lorelei with them and saw Lorelei as a disappointment no matter what she did because she didn’t fit into Emily’s vision.

As a huge GG fan, I have 2 things to say in regards to what you've talked about in the video: 1) Yes, the daughters ARE like their mothers sometimes, even though Rory and Lane may look and sound different. That is I think normal. Even Lorelei is like Emily sometimes when she gets rigid about what Rory should do with her life (remember when Lorelei demanded that Rory should go back to Yale and shut her out when she took a break? That's when I saw Emily 'shinning' through in Lorelei). 2) The mothers of Lorelei and Lane didn't do their best. There are few theories on the internet and some of them agreed with the fact that at least, Emily is a toxic, narcissistic parent. A narcissistic parent does not care about their daughter but more about what others think of her image and how she raises the child. Everything a child does reflects on this parent, that is why Emily freaked out when she first saw the 'shed' where Lorelei raised Rory. Emily thought it was an offense done to her by Lorelei to hurt her by choosing to live in poverty than to have everything done for her in Emily's house. Emily thought her daughter hated her so much that she had to hurt her in a way. And the 'shed' was her way of hurting her. This is exactly what a narcissist thinks and feels-it is all about her. In reality, Lorelei needed air to breathe, to be apart from her overbearing mother, to have the space to raise Rory the way she felt right. And she did it. I think Lane's mother grew a lot in the show and that may be she was not a narcissist. Emily didn't change at all in regards to how she treated Lorelei. She manipulated Lorelei into going to therapy with her in the Revival, only to drop out unexpectedly and leave Lorelei to deal with the consequences of her drop out (so disrespectful). It would be nice to see Rory and her child in the future, perhaps in a new season of Gilmore Girls. I don't really think she'll be a good mother but she definitely won't be as rigid as Emily.

Great, nuanced vid. I'm frustrated by the narrative in fandom that Emily & Lorelai are the same (which you didn't quite say). Lorelai is a kind person. Emily is not. This matters.

None of this cookie cutter pop psychiatry even aoplies to Laurelai's character. She knows more than every other chatacter about sex and class but no one takes her seriously. She's always dismissed & stereotyped as the unwed mother. No matter what she achieves the society she lives on shames her repeatedly for the selfishness of the men that make her life hatder than ot ever should have been. The story was always Laurelai's story and the story of the comminity of women thay raised Rory.
