thanks Shane! here's an excerpt from a longer (way too much longer, oh well) message in a small Paypal thanks I just sent: "...with your help in KZbin, I'm finally starting to learn all the stuff I wish I had decades ago ... especially "Breaking Free From The Pentatonic Rut!" while driving in to work this morning (no watching yet, looking forward to the visual) - this 7 minutes holds the keys to so much of what I've always wondered what was missing in my playing - blues especially, but a lot more too, in theory and thinking..." - please keep up the great work!

Love this vamp .. sounds so 'Nawlins. I'm stealing all your licks, Shane .. thanks! You know, us old geezers learned to play as kids by hanging with and watching better players, wearing out LP's to learn parts. You Tube has made it so easy to essentially do the same thing. Today's young guitar players don't realize how good they have it!

Thanks, man. Yeah, I've used IV and V Dom 7 arpeggios, but I like how you related it back to the pentatonic shapes and the 6th. Cool perspective and great lesson. That solo at the beginning was fantastic. Gonna borrow some of that...hope you don't mind!

Thanks so much, Shane! I absolutely love your playing-you're such an inspiration! I’ve subscribed to your channel and am soaking up all your lessons. I’m working on building my own channel too, so I know how much effort goes into this stuff. You’re killing it! I think about this idea a little differently in terms of Pentatonic Scales rather than strictly blues. For example, off the Bb, it’s the Bb Dominant Pentatonic (1, 2, 3, 5, b7), and off the F, it’s the F Minor 6 Pentatonic (1, b3, 4, 5, 6). Same exact notes, shapes, and scale-but different modes or perspectives. You could even take it a step further over the F7 by using the Dominant Pentatonic (1, 2, 3, 5, b7) starting on F for that Scofield-style Mixolydian vibe. Switching between these two pentatonics over the F7 gives you so much variety! So now over your F7, you’ve got four distinct pentatonic flavors: Minor, Major, Minor 6, and Dominant. Each has its own personality, and keeping them pentatonic keeps that quirky, angular sound intact. Hope this adds another perspective to your excellent approach! Request, you need to do a video on your picking technique. There is some nice sweeping going on there. Would love to hear how you approach this.

That's great Shane thank you what amp and pedal are you using I'm thinking getting twin for cheap money if that's a twin with overdrive pedal I'm in on amp I think it's that plexi marshall if my ears are correct
@TheRiotguitar29 күн бұрын
on this video it's a Butler tube driver into the Twin reverb. Just what I had lying around at the moment but really most OD pedals all sound good through the Twin. That plexi sounds really great though I'll have to do a video with it soon
