Awesome! I recently purchased 2 acres of property an hour out of Dallas. It's 5 minutes from a huge lake, and I have a small pond on my property. I have a school bus I'm converting that I'll live. I'm hoping to be there full-time by year end. I'm so looking forward to living in the country and off grid 😊

Have followed both channels and have learned a lot. I have lived full time on the road in a truck camper and on 3acres of riverfront property and I am done with both. 61 years old and I enjoy more creature comforts than I thought. Property flooded out three times in a year and law enforcement was getting unbearable on the road trating me like a second class citizen. I'm back in an upscale nice neighborhood which is as quiet as the 3 acres belive it or not. The long hot showers is what I missed the most.

Where I live , this is how our grandparents did it. Start out small and simple , and build it up bit by bit. Now this is all illegal around here. Young people have to buy a built home or build a home to code starting out with a minimum debt of half a million. The older generation say the youngens don't work hard enough or don't know how to save but they dont understand how different it is today. When I was young a farm hand's wage could buy a family size home and the wife never had to go to a paid job. These days two high paying wages and no kids you can only buy a flat. My friends and I are all looking for places like this where opportunity still exists. Great video ! I have just subbed to Brian's channel 😄

Exactly right! Even when I was a kid, men could support their family AND have health insurance (non-union) and the wife didn't have to work. That seemed to change mid-1960's. Anyone else opinion by memory?

Having watched both of you for years, it's fun to see you together! And such a bittersweet pleasure to see Sierra. We homestead in northern New Mexico, transplants from SW Colorado. As much as I loved Colorado, the regulations, crowding (and cost) just became too much. Now, I live off-grid on very remote 80 acres, capture 3000 gal. of rainwater and live in a strawbale/adobe home. Thanks for another great vid.

I found Brian's channel years ago. He was alone with his dog, wintering in his tent. Seems like he was doing it to challenge himself. Over the years I've watched him refine his mission. A great interview here but Brian did not reveal the hardship and perseverance that he had to withstand including the ill health of his dog, and his own health was severely challenged, he could have died. He went to many doctors and was misdiagnosed. He finally diagnosed himself. Yes I definitely recommend a weekend watching all the videos in this channel

Thank you. I've been needing more inspiration. Two years ago I was abandoned by my husband and I thought my dream if traveling was over. I bought a 1990 21ft Winnie and I've been renovating it completely ever since.....while living in it! I'm on family property and I have acres to share if any of my nomad family comes through southeast Louisiana or ms gulf coast and would like a place to park in exchange for a little bit of assistance with my rv. I had the roof entirely replaced and I have a few electrical issues to correct. I am just itching to get out there and travel before I'm unable to do so. With the state of our world right now, it's wise to secure a home base, away from the masses. I'm so thankful that I have family property for that, but, I'm thinking it might also be wise to have a small property in another location, just in case. Time to start saving up for that.

Wow, Brian may have just saved me thousands on my off grid dream in Cochise County, Arizona, with his 55 gal septic piece of information. I’ll have to look into that. Also, I’ve seen Brian’s videos and was amazed how someone could live in a tent with that much snow. He was having a weight loss problem, probably because of the cold but seems to be doing better now. Thanks for the great information Bob and Brian.

in many, many counties around the USA, you can't sleep in an RV more than a certain number of nights on your own land. it's like a Covenant, a sort of permanent HOA that has legal consequences. around Bandon/Bend OR the realtors will insist that the law will never be enforced, but it's still something to consider because you never really have full control of your land in those areas.

So depressing. I live in New York and the codes and zoning make living off grid nearly impossible. It's so sad because i love NY and want to stay here but as I get closer to retirement, it appears more and more that I'm going to have to leave to find what I'm dreaming about.

Good idea. I read a book years ago. It said once you buy a house never sell it. Turn it into a rental and have the rent pay it off. Then the rent will contribute to your retirement income. I have done this. It is working well.

Sorry to here about NY and PA. I hoped to find something reasonably close to the city and NJ bc of family. I know how I want to live, needs and footprint small, quietly and simply with nature. Economics and government insist on a different lifestyle so we consume so others can profit. I am an easterner, can't imagine moving west, but .....

I relate to the feeling like a sell out in the corporate world and ultimately left a couple of years ago. Also looking to buy land, sell my house and hit the road part time. This is a great way to live the best of both worlds I think. Amen to discipline and frugality!

Yes! This is the nitty gritty info we need. I'm 57, never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up, so never got stuck in marriage, kids, or corporate, so also never made real money. Now I see how it is in this Matrix and I'm actually pretty glad. Now I'm ramping up to early retirement in 4 years, and I'm spending this time tying up all loose ends and deciding on a rig. I'm pretty sure I can live on $1200/month in a van or SUV. I do want to buy some land here in NC just as a base before I go. Thank you so much for this education!

Building codes and usage regulations make it tough for low income homesteading. It should not be a crime to sleep anywhere. What harm does a sleeping person do to anyone? Live and let live is a thing of the past. The norm now is you must live as I do. Where my home base is, there was little regulation up until the 2000's. The result is you can have a million dollar house next door to an old mobile home. We all get along just fine. Now that the area is growing, there are more rules made by those who want to regulate others.

There seems to be an evolution of KZbin vanlifers from the road to the land. Many are buying land in northern Arizona. I was nomadic for about seven years before buying land. I plan on building a cabin/tiny house since most Arizona counties limit how long you can live in a trailer or RV. Luckily most counties don't check.

I've been researching cheap land for a long time and finding a spot is challenging. Most of those plots under a couple of acres belong to a development, which has CC&Rs. Plus you have local codes and they are cracking down on off grid people. It seems the best thing is to go in with a bunch of like minded people, buy a chunk of land that isnt part of a development, form an LLC to manage the land/resolve disputes, and go that route...

I was talking to a lady, native of mid-Florida. Said she wanted to downsize. She Was thinking about moving to eastern West Virginia. I live in eastern West Virginia. I told her to forget that plan.....the suburban MD. DC, and VA people have now priced us out. If I sell my house, I'll never be able to re-buy it. Only owned it 10 years and it has 100% increase. I suggested southern and western West Virginia as long as the water wasn't polluted or subject to flooding. Some of those areas still have basic land as long as a person doesn't want luxury nor good roads.
