Im a heat cycle man to be honest with fresh motors, but I dont buy them from a factory that are pre run checked before crating. I also feel that more parts of an engine require running in such as the gearbox and case bearings to ensure long life from components. Contaminants from bearing and component manufacture that can be missed during the assembly process are flushed out in the inital heat cycling process with first few oil changes, not to mention the assembly lube. It is a well known fact that 80% of engine wear happens during warmup, so excessively long runs breaking in an engine is also unwarranted. Good luck with your build and hope your plans come together in getting all the components to work harmoniously!

I picked up my ZX-6R from a dealership about 1.5 hrs away. It gave me a good 30 mins in stop and go traffic to get it warmed up, stay relatively low on the rpm, and perform heavy engine braking to get to the high way. The following hour in higher rpms going through the gears making sure I get the load to seat my rings. Planning to go to the same dealership if Kawasaki releases a favored rumored bike.

It would be far fetched to gain that much on the dyno that is reading this at 168 whp stock. We have not dyno'd anything like this yet, with this exact WSBK exhaust setup with the WSBK velocity stacks. We will post the video once it is done to show the true numbers without fudging it.

I break in per owners manual. Truthfully a few cool down cycles probably almost as important. Let the different metals have a few times to expand and contract into each other. I just bought a 2 stroke water cooled YZ 250. Run the bike at moderately low rpm for a few minutes let cool. Run second time moderate to a few high pulls for 5-7 minutes let cool. Then run at full speeds few minutes then cool. Break in complete. Change oil.

The problem with the dyno is that it does not provide the variables of gravity. hills, leans, etc etc. While, you’re doing it right by seating the rings, that happens much sooner than 20 miles. First 5 miles or so and that is done. Do your dyno run to seat the rings and then get it out there on the road with all the variable for rest of break in….. and I’d say that would be as perfect a break in as one could do.
@HondaFan4702 жыл бұрын

Could you elaborate on "seating the rings"? I dont see how the piston rings need to seat in place. I could see how this would debur them though.
@Motomillion2 жыл бұрын
Quoting this for you: "The ring seating process is accomplished by actual metal-to-metal contact between the ring and the cylinder wall. The ring’s job is to seal all the gases it can on the top side of the piston from escaping to the bottom side of the piston and into the crankcase. To accomplish this, the ring must match the contour of the cylinder barrel along the ring’s full diameter and width. The cylinder barrel must also do some wearing to have a consistent contour along the stroke of the ring."

I’ve been wondering why my 2020 R1M didn’t come with titanium headers…..I feel robbed because they were still advertised as having them.
@Motomillion2 жыл бұрын
I think it was either stainless header or no bike at all. Either way, just because it is titanium, it doesn’t mean that it makes more power. Probably results in a small weight savings because the oem titanium header is still pretty heavy.
