This man continues to inspire me every day. Even though comics isn’t really my thing anymore, the way Palle works and thinks pushes me to keep my drive on everything I do. Can’t wait to watch this one!

What's important is not what you get from the output itself but what you get from doing it. That's what I get from your excellent video. It will make creators focus more on their process and what they're creating and quell expectations on how their creations perform. Unmet expectations create frustrations.

We all go through slumps. And looking at more "succesful" artists every day on Instagram is not necessarily helping. Glad this did! Thanks for your comment, have an awesome day!

Hello Palle, I've ordered The Devil's Concubine-it's on it's way and I can't wait to read it. Thanks for inspiring me. I've written some scripts originally intended for film and T.V, but would love to visualize them by putting them into graphic novel form: Only problem is my drawing skills are barely above basic...But I'm working on that! All the best from the U.K. Sean

Thanks a lot, Sean! Hope you dig the book. Regarding drawing skills, there are many examples of people who are not great artists that still create great comics. I think you have to write stories that fit your style or find someone to work with.

I felt like I made it as a special effects artist when I worked on 50 First Dates but... I thought I made it when i was on a reality tv show, but... Then again when i got my first book deal, but... like you said, its a difficult road regardless. 1-step forward, 3-steps back. I guess we, as artists, just mark our achievements up to a bucket list check marks and try to move on. The important thing is we keep trying. Love your videos. Thanks for sharing.
@comicsforbeginners

Thanks for sharing these stories. Your bucket list approach is spot on, because it's a list of own goals. And anyone who keeps lists know they never end! I really hope my take doesn't come across like whining, I really do believe this "making it" myth is more harmful than the actual experience of doing stuff with varying degrees of success. Nothing wrong with that!
@EscapeDesignStudios
@EscapeDesignStudios 2 жыл бұрын
@@comicsforbeginners Totally agree. "Making it" should really just be a reflection of personal achievement not professional success. 😁

@@EscapeDesignStudios Since the professional success is beyond your control and yet often a biproduct of said achievements, yes! Totally agree.

The Devil's Concubine and Stiletto! I loved these stories! Oh man, I have no idea you had a KZbin channel. Amelia Woo here, just another comic book artist. I've just finished my first creator-owner graphic novel (and English Localization with chatGPT) and I'm preparing "fancy" motion graphics for my trailer. Now I'm working on "fancy" motion graphics for my trailer. I'm less embarrassed by myself now that you mentioned making the trailer for your comic (right? What will people think about an author that doesn't pay a studio or agency to create a trailer for their own comics? I thought that before, but not anymore). I have a U.S. publisher, but I'm in charge of my whole promo material. Having a publisher scares me. They put money into it, and I'll feel the obligation to give the money back. So I'm giving it all I've got. Exactly! Awards and mentions won't change anybody's life. Haven't changed mine at least, still in limbo haha. Thank you for sharing your story! It's truly inspiring!
@comicsforbeginners

Thanks Amelia! Yea, the idea that having a publisher means they do the heavy lifting is apparently a thing of the past. And I'm sure everyone knows you don't make a ton of money on comics so OF COURSE you will produce whatever promo material in the cheapest possible fashion. No judgement there.

@@comicsforbeginners Yup, that's me. But I'm primarily a penciller (inking my own work), and occasionally a digital painter. Still have no idea why people hire me as an illustrator, because I'm pretty bad at this haha Fortunately, 90% of my gigs are interior art. Again, it was an honor for me to talk with you! I admire your work and have been a long-time follower of your creator-owned comics :)

@@comicsforbeginners I've been working as a pro artist (interior art) for almost 20 years ^^ David Campiti is my agent. That's the reason I said awards don't make miracles. I have a New York Times Best Selling and a Bram Stoker award on my belt, still, people don't know me haha

Sejt!

Great Video! Inspiring! I have a new topic for you ;) I draw a lot, and I think I am at the point I could possibly draw comic. I can draw characters, backgrounds, I know the workshop, techniques, but I can't put it all together. Help! Whenever I try to draw a page it's ok, but it' quite stiff. I think I miss something, but I can't find what. I tried to know better about the composition, but it's a wide topic. Maybe You would make a video about this? :) Greetings from Poland!
