It's a decent move in a vacuum. The problem with paying relievers is that they're a lot more volatile from season to season than starters are, and we've seen what happens with Jordan Hicks last year when they converted him into a starter. That's why I wouldn't call it a HUGE signing. It's a good calculated risk on Shatkins' part. Now...what else do they have?

You do realize that player also have to pass a physical with the Jays. Apparently Baltimore has a history of doing doing the same thing with other players in hope of renegotiating deals etc. Baltimore owner insists on very stringent physicals and they are said to be the toughest in baseball. Whatever Baltimore saw the Jays didn't think the same and were willing to take the risk.
@Jello10814 күн бұрын
@glynnmcneill1875 absolutely does need to pass a physical with jays i don't feel as though it's just a slam dunk signing as the video was making it out to be. It may turn out great but there's potential for it to be a disaster also. Given the terrible off season the jays are currently having just makes u wonder if they were desperate and willing to take that chance knowing they had to do something. And if he was such a sought after free agent as video suggest where was all the rumors and chatter I didn't see many people.talk8mg about this guy as a potential signing. Also if that's true where we're the Yankees the dodgers the red Sox the padres the big all in teams??? It's just a wonder in my eye. Hoffman's second half wasn't quite as good as the first half. If his presence in the bullpen bumps Pop back to Buffalo, I'm a bit more happy. Curious to see if the Jays make enough signings to bump over the first luxury tax threshold in 2025. After being projected to be over it last season, they shed salary to duck it. Now they won't have the penalties associated with going over three years in a row, if Atkins gets on the ball and signs some more people.
