Thank you for watching the video! Since OnX is the official sponsor of this trip it feels like a good time to remind you that we have a 20% discount worked out for any of you interested in trying their software. I believe it's like $30 for the year, which is already cheap, but who doesn't like to save a little extra when they can. No pressure on my end but this really is great software. It's constantly helping me find epic destinations. Call some friends and get some trips on the calendar! The time for making memories is now folks! The Rubicon NEEDS to be on your bucket list as well as a few others that I have plans to visit in the near future. Oh yeah, the Discount code is "dirtlifestyle" and here is a link if you are interested. Thank again for watching! ONX MAPS: webmap.onxmaps.com/account-purchase.html?

If you have the locker on it turns off abs, tacomas have a anti roll back feature that uses the abs, many times if I’m using the locker and I roll back just a inch it will shut the truck off and say trans temp high and oil pressure low

Thanks for the end of the video. My Dad just passed away on his 60th birthday. He always wanted to do Moab and we made plans to but his health got in the way. For his memorial we went to Moab for him with all our jeeps and it was amazing. Life is short live it to the fullest you can.

I did an upgrade on a buddies Tacoma by installing a cotter pin in the transmission line "bypass" block to keep the lines open at all times. In addition to that an added trans cooler up front and he hasn't had further issues. Hope that helps.
@DirtLifestyle
@DirtLifestyle 2 жыл бұрын
It definitely does! I always consider a cooler for towing but this would be a good idea for crawling aswell. 👍
@PNW_Rodeo
@PNW_Rodeo 2 жыл бұрын
@@DirtLifestyle Nate, pinning that plunger in on the bypass block is very helpful in keeping the temps down before they get hot. You can find it inline with the trans lines under the passenger side. There's a plunger on the side with a tiny hole on either side of it, like a hydraulic timing belt tensioner. Push that plunger in and hold it while threading the cotter pin through to retain it. Love the videos and I'm glad I could provide some helpful info. 👍
@rickwhitmire7933

Is this only for an Automatic Trans? The cotter pin deal. I’ve seen my low oil pressure like come on, once in 70,000 miles. But I was at an extreme angle.
@PNW_Rodeo
@PNW_Rodeo 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's for the transmission cooler bypass valve. It's s small block between both lines that is closed when the fluid temp is below a set temp (re-routes fluid back to transmission instead of cooler). When the fluid reaches temp the valve opens and allows the fluid to go to the cooler up front. Pinning it locks it open 100%.

Life is Short, Amen Last year I turned 60, forced to go on disability at 57.5, I have had several severe health conditions for years & continue to get more as I age (my sister & brother passed in their 30s). Do not wait to do the things you want later, later is now. I hope when I do die, it's in a beautiful place like I see in your videos. I will probably never make it to the extreme trails you experience but I will be leaving Wisconsin in the winters & going to remote places in the southwest camping. Don't apologize for talking numbers. As another builder / suspension nerd, I love to here it. I've always been fascinated by how there is no apparent "perfect" wheelbase or tire size. One obstacle the 110" wheelbase rig will absolutely idle up without any drama and the next its all f'd off and banging limiter followed by a stock tj on 33's idling through with open diffs laughing. It might be one of my favorite parts of wheeling. It seems like every setup has its place.

Your ending really got me Nate. I'm lying in bed with a blood clot in my lung, I can't take the heat and humidity outside. So my 502 Suburban swap continues to sit and wait for me. I'm missing out on trail rides with my wife and daughter and the unknown of upcoming test dates and results is not leaving me in a great state of mind. 51 yrs old and I wish I had at times done more for myself and my family than always helping others. It felt right and good at the time, and even though I would never turn my back on someone in need if I was in a position to help, I'm lying here feeling like I short changed myself and my family. To anyone reading this, along theblines of Nate's closing remarks, if you're able now, get out with family and friends and run some trails and enjoy the time you have NOW, don't wait. Thanks for the video Nate.

22:30 in video: those faux bead-lock wheels look so good at the mall. One good thing about CO2 power tanks is they inflate fast. I have never understood 80K Jeeps without bead locks or lockers on hard trails. That tail/box mod on your Tacoma really makes the Gladiator look out of place... which they are. I have seen a few bob-tail Gladiators and they are pretty capable. Nice drone footage. Thank you, thank you, thank you for not using RAP music as your background. Amen to your encouragement to do it now. I'm at 72 and probably have 10 good years left where I can Jeep, ride motorcycles, shoot competitively, fabricate and do machining. Problems, troubles, and breakdowns are half the fun (as long as its not catastrophic and/or injuries involved.) When things go wrong, it makes things exciting. It gives reason to stop, have fun, joking around with each other, work together, and overall just enjoy the experience. When things go perfectly smoothly, it seems like things go by too quick and it can be "boring" (relatively at least. Its never boring going on an adventure haha)

Great video Nate. I did the Rubicon a few years ago, 3 of us in 2 well built JKs. We ran the entire trail in one very long day. Maybe not the best way to do it, but it was our choice. We hit the trailhead very early and got to Tahoe very late. We are not campers so it was the way we wanted to do it. The only thing we bypassed was the soup bowl. Couple of thngs.....the good: Awesome trail, awesome views. A trail every off roader needs to do. The bad: The people on the trail. As I saw you do at least once, we picked up a LOT of trash. So much so that by Cadillac hill (you should have shown people the Cadillac off the trail) we no longer had room to haul any more. I have to say the people we ran into were not the friendliest people I have ever met. Its a different crowd than Moab or CO trails. We came across a Land Rover that was broken down. The guy was staying with the truck while his friends went to get parts. He was there 3 days already. But he knew if he left his truck, it would be stripped when he got back. We gave him food and water which he desperately needed. The worst episode was after Rubicon Springs we encountered 3 very old beat to hell pick up trucks. One was broke down on the trail. The 3 guys were drunk as shit and armed. We offered to help, which they refused. We then said we would just sneak past them, to which one of them, with a Glock proudly displayed in his waist band said "no, you will wait until we have this truck fixed and moved". Now there was plenty of room to go around, but they were drunk and probably high on meth. (that is meth country after all). It was an unfortunate experience but not all that rare on that trail. I read on Pirate that while we were there, a guy left his travel trailer at the trail head only to return days later and find several bullet holes in it. As he posted on line, how did they know if he was in it or not? That said, it is still a must do trail. Just go knowing that it attracts a rougher crowd than what you find in other wheeling areas. At least that is what we encountered. Could be we were just unlucky in that regard.

A bunch of people who have never done it with a couple that have. After doing it though, I would prefer to take three days. It gives you a chance to really soak in being there. Then you can really relax and enjoy everything that’s there. From the wheeling, to the scenery, to the springs themselves. Definitely returning to do it again! P.S. Love the trail. I have a YJ on 33s, what a challenge. My son Morgan and his buddy Brice have lifted JKU's. We went when there was snow in May, reverse direction half way. Did the whole thing end of June. Great times

Excellent video. The entire video is superb. Narration, editing, curious music selection, overall story line. The personal quips, like the thing about the Patreon drivers made it through, "with all the pre-stacked rocks and what not" lol Your a smart, fun guy. I watch a lot of videos, I mean a lot. lol Your fun to watch. This episode may be one of the best. seriously.

I've had this trail on my list for so long but this video makes me realize just the level of preparation mechanically, mentally and financially you need to have before tackling this trail with confidence. A regear, some slightly larger tires and maybe a little extra armor and my Tacoma should be ready within the next year and I'm going no matter what. Thanks for the amazing storytelling Nate!

I have to admit. Your closing statements got me a little teary eyed because I know exactly what you're talking about. I've been through that area hiking on the PCT many years ago as well as much of the high Sierras and Trinity Alps and more recently, the Cascades... The astonishing beauty of northern California and the Cascade range are some of the fondest memories of my life. At age 61 some of that hiking is getting a little tougher so I have been turning to off roading to be able to continue the adventuring that has brought me so much joy. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately... You can't off road to many of the places that you can on foot. Keep up the good work making great videos that inspire the rest of us...

Great job. Very true. None of us know how long we’ve got here. I started wheeling 4 years ago and have ran the Rubicon in a friends lj. Quite a ride. Thanks for all the work you do.

Nerding out on the trail is one of the best things you do! (26:00) I love all of the good commentary about how certain builds work better in certain situations. I think it really helps me as a fellow builder and how I want to make my jeep perform
