Breaking News Coverage (CBS/NBC/CNBC/FoxBiz), 9/15/2008

When this happened, I was living from paycheck to paycheck and was clueless what went on because I wasn't investing. Now I have good chunk of money invested(hence I have better idea), I sometimes get urge to re-visit and recall what went on around these days as a cautionary tale.

I don't know how Bush survived his time in office, 9/11, losing a war that was already extremely unpopular and then the worst financial downturn since the Great Depression. Millions of Americans lost their homes, jobs and retirement funds. I cannot imagine the mental pressures thay he was under. At least Obama was able to say that he didn't cause the recession. Bush was already in office 8 years so he couldn't blame anyone but himself.

@@Joseph-ke3xctaking us into Iraq was 100% his fault. Remember that. He was completely ignorant in economics, but it was his administration and he directly who chose Bernanke who repeatedly lied to the American public about the impending crisis. It was also other government institutions like the SEC (also who’s chair was chosen directly by Bush) who also failed to prevent a housing crisis. MBS were reported directly to the SEC so they had all the information about these derivatives. Bush himself may have not been an economist or financial expert, but he appointed people who supposedly were who were directly to blame for the crisis. Due to Bernanke’s inability to assess the risk that US banks, especially systematically important banks, were exposed to in addition to Christopher Cox’s inability to assess the complexity and fragility of these derivatives and the risk they posed to investment banks and the larger financial system as a whole for example if the US were the hike rates is what caused the crisis. So maybe Bush wasn’t to blame directly but it was his administration and incompetence to handle the economy in the first place which led you into that mess (the financial crisis is before my time as I’m only 22 now, but I’ve studied it before).
