Vatican II never announced new dogma. There's nothing within it's documents saying that if you don't agree with it you are anathema. Every ecumenical council before it says that you are anathema if you don't agree with it's canons and decrees.

Only one bishop was smart enough to not sign any document because he wanted to read what he was supposed to sign. It's not. That's why no one is obliged by it.

@@StanleyPinchak Heresy is a spiritual crime which requires a trial. Perhaps what you mean is, can someone who has been accused of heresy be in leadership? Yes, of course they can. Leaders and non-leaders are accused of all sorts of things all the time. That is why trials are needed to be fair to the accused. Otherwise no one would ever accept leaders they did not like. Vigano had a trial. He decided not to show up and basically agreed with their accusations. Whatever your issue is with our Holy Father, that does not justify Vigano's actions or defending schism. The pope in particular cannot be a formal heretic as he is protected by the promise of Christ over the successors of St Peter. Interestingly enough, the belief that the pope can be a formal heretic or that the Church can defect is a heresy - one that Vigano himself seems guilty of. Then again, his trial was for schism which is worse.

I say he is not the pope. Not because of what happened during Vatican II, not even because of what transpired between him and Ratzenberger- but because he does not possess, defend, or teach the Catholic Faith. You only need to be a Catholic and a man to be the pope. If you lack the Faith, you simply cannot be Catholic. If you are not Catholic then you cannot be the pope. It is that simple.

I see that Bishop Vigano's case is similar to Martin Luther's case, he was excommunicated/ heresy just for going against CHURCH rules ?? Protestant Church was recognized by Rome Catholic Church as brother in faith, namely the CHURCH OF CHRIST, not heresy (KV2 ) ... IF the anathema against M. Luther was heresy, of course Rome Catholic Church would refuse to recognize M. Luther / Protestan as a brother in faith because it deviated from the truth of the Bible, on the other hand, if the anathema because He was not in accordance with the rules of the Rome Catholic Church , but still in accordance with the truth of the Bible, then Rome Catholic Church would still recognize Protestan as brother in the faith (Church of Christ). ... which one is correct? Different Cases for Arius - Jehovah's Witness / Sabelius - Pentecostal Oneness who was anathema because against the Bible (rejecting Trinitarian God) so They was not recognized as brother in the faith / not the Church of Christ ( heretic )

It is a tragedy that Mr. Vigano lost faith in the Holy Spirit. The lesson, no amount of high education can preserve our faith, only fidelity to the grace dispensed by the Catholic Church. Schism refers to obedience and does not refer to wrong theology (heresy). In the history of the Church we have had morally bad popes. Still, they were and are recognized as valid popes to this day. Mr. Vigano has failed to be obedient. His hapless followers use the same logic as other schismatics - God is leading him to rebel against a legitimate pope - perhaps a bad pope or even an evil pope but still is the pope.

Even some Fathers of the Church held errant ideas that were condemned by the Church, yet they were neither heretics or schismatics. Mr. Vigano is yet another wayward schismatic so caught up in his own rationalizing that he abandoned the One True Faith. Open your time praying for him instead of trying to justify his follies.

I don't disagree with this decision one bit, it was definitely warranted, and he needed to be silenced. But what happened with all the rhetoric that excommunication is not the way to go, that it is uncharitable? It seems like speaking against God is tolerated, mocking the faith is tolerated, mocking the sacrifice in Calvary not a big deal, leading people towards hell can be tolerated, legislating and making a career out of murdering children can be tolerated, twisting the word of God so that good is bad and bad is good, making a mockery out marriage and human sexuality can be tolerated... but you can't go after certain people - I say people because I really do not think the excommunication had anything to do with preserving the integrity of the office. Joe Biden and James Martin are now on deck... or maybe not. That would be uncharitable.
