I bet she handled a significant part of the research for Senator Kennedy on this disgusting mess. She has probably seen a ton of complaints about this kind of misconduct throughout government and how difficult it is to hold senior bureaucrats accountable for failing to manage their departments. Watching one of them squirm from that vantage point while he’s being scolded for passing the buck is better than getting box seats for any other public event anywhere. This garbage has been going on in federal and many state government agencies for decades. Why? Because most government employees are covered under Civil Service regulations--which operate directly to prevent even egregiously awful employees from being easily terminated for blatantly unethical or even illegal workplace behavior. I worked in state government as a manager. Even with meticulous documentation of employee misbehavior, getting a grossly misbehaving employee finally fired would usually involve numerous hearings, grievance hearings, corrective action plans, etc. that could take up to two years before the misbehaving employee would actually get dismissed. The employees knew it and the managers knew it.

What is going on at the FDIC is absolutely nothing new in the workplace if you are a woman. Working for 52 years, I have left jobs because of harassment, good jobs. My theory was: Why file a lawsuit? I'm smart enough to find another job and good at what I do. And I wanted to use the current employer as a reference and a lawsuit would destroy that reference. I would say harassment happens in 50% of companies even today.

It happens to everyone. I can clearly recall some crazy woman at work going on and on to me about guys with little wieners. I recall thinking What? How on earth did this become a topic. She ranted on about how 3 inches was to small and bla, bla, bla... I have NO clue what got her started or what made her think I wanted to hear any of it or about her sex life or preference. I had liked her as a person before that but after that I avoided her at all costs as clearly she was a total nut bag. I wasn't offended but I sure didn't want to hear about it. I just learned who to avoid and who to limit my conversation to Hi and bye.

When I worked as a young woman back in the 60s sexual harassment was always going on. I worked at an insurance company with 50 agents and was sexually harassed all the time and I couldn't do one thing about it!

Same here. At that time if a woman complained she was labeled as “trouble.” Management didn’t want to deal with it. A woman had to deal with each creep quietly and independently; eventually word got around to leave her alone. I was fortunate to have been successful in my career. I was also fortunate to have been raised in a home where women were treated with respect by their fathers and other male members of the family.

Given this nation's lack of loyalty to the TRUTH, I have no idea if the allegations are 100% or Zero % true or somewhere in between. What I do know for a fact, is women at any time can turn a YES into a NO for any reason and it makes them quite dangerous in the workplace. For men, however we MUST always take a NO to mean NO and STOP to mean STOP. There can be no debate on that fact.
