Well, there goes another Kmart store closing down in Bridgehampton NY. That'll leave the small Kmart store in Miami FL at Kendale Lakes as the very last remaining Kmart store in the continental USA. Hopefully, Target plans to replace the soon-to-close Kmart store since its closure will leave Bridgehampton NY without any big-box department stores in business. Right now, Bridgehampton NY has no Target or Walmart store in business when it comes to big-box department stores. The city only has a King Kullen supermarket, two off-price department stores TJ Maxx and Marshalls, a Walgreens drugstore, and a few "category killer" stores (Staples, Barnes & Noble, Petco, etc.).

A Target would be the logical choice (I don’t think a Walmart would be so widely accepted)… But it could be a luxury retailer who would adapt to a smaller footprint (anything from Macy’s to Neiman Marcus), or something like a Kohls. It won’t be vacant for long. This is certainly an extraordinary property in an extraordinary place. Expect the lease to be in loss-leader range as this would be more marquee location than revenue generator.

Bridgehampton is actually a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located in the town of Southampton. Also, How did anyone find news about Target moving into the space, a I can't find anything about it while searching on Google?

@@DVaccarelli1988 Maybe it was a rumor or I might have confused it with another former Kmart location.

@@djbobaldrich You would think that but you can actually find Walmart stores in some really fancy areas like in California, Newport Beach, Irvine, Hollywood hills, Napa Valley and Sanoma, also here in WA state on the islands, super expensive homes and they have a Walmart but funny enough Walmart keeps distance from the local competitor which is Fred Meyer at least in the suburbs of Seattle. Although Fred Meyer is different format, they don't really have much automotive or tools and pretty thin in the household goods but they do have better groceries and clothing from name brands unlike Walmart that mostly has low end brands or no-name brands but I usually buy Amazon lol.

😪 I’m in NYC, I’ll probably make the trip over by LIRR to see the store before it closes. How sad

The closing of this store means that the only store left in the mainland US is the one in Miami, but it's been downsized and it's only as big as a convenience store now. I won't be surprised if it closes. For now, the only K-Mart stores left anywhere in the US is the one in Miami, Guam and the three stores that are in the Virgin Islands. At least K-Mart will live on in Australia where the K-Mart brand is alive and well. The Australian K-Marts are run by a different company that is independently run and has nothing to do with Eddie Lampert's corporation.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the Kendall location closes either late this year or sometime next year. Most likely, K-Mart will be gone (except its territories) in the US for good in 2025.

Damn, I thought this store would last, considering they did paint the walls.

I live down the street. You mean document the store generally or the last day specifically? I have memories of shopping here during Covid. It was also one of a few stores I felt safe taking my son into during Covid because it was a big store and never crowded. I took for granted that while I still shop at a Kmart, most of the US has never shopped at one in years…

Bummer, I can’t even go. I’m closer to the Kmart in Kendall Lakes Miami. I haven’t ever been to this Kmart when I used to live in NJ. I’m so sad to hear the news.

I believe the property is owned by Kimco (at least it was when I left the Hamptons in 2017). There’s been much speculation on who may take that space once KMart wrapped it up. This is the only big-box sized space in the Hamptons (still smaller than the current breed of big-box spaces at

While there are no Woolworth’s stores in the USA, the same company that was Woolworth’s is now Foot Locker especially after the Foot Locker brand became a lot more successful than the Woolworth’s brand.

@@SRS_-wu3gxYep, it was bought out by a few different companies. And now it's owned by the same people who own target. Which happened a couple years ago.

@@Dashiell777 That is wrong in the USA. Target Corporation competes against Kmart in the USA. Kmart is owned by Transformco in the USA. I think that the Target and Kmart brands might be owned by the same company in Australia, but I could be wrong on that.
