Update: A spokesman for Dutch police, Robert van Kapel, told NBC News: "We can confirm that we have arrested a 41-year-old American woman at Schiphol Airport because of possession of soft drugs", without naming the woman in question. Nicki Minaj has now been released and given. Anfine according to Netherlands officials.

Nicki really needs to research local customs of these countries. She ran into a similar issue in Dubai when she tried to hug a male fan and her team had to stop her because it was illegal. When you leave the US their laws apply not the ones we’re used to. Countries outside of the US take drugs very seriously. Some don’t allow birth control flown in or other medications until it’s inspected at the airport. Brittany Greiner should’ve been a lesson to all. We’re lucky that for the most part the US tolerates a lot. A father recently went to Turks and Caicos unknowingly had a firearm part and they booked. Do your research. If it’s not medication you need then leave it at home and don’t bring blades and other stuff on you because they will book you in Europe, Asia, and parts of South America.

Celebrities should be accountable for their actions. If they are not, it sends a message to the public that those with money and status need not follow the law. She was stopped at the Amsterdam airport as she was about to board a plane for the concert in Manchester. Police told her they found marijuana in her bags. Cannabis is illegal in the Netherlands, but it is tolerated for recreational use. You can be fined or imprisoned if you take drugs outside the Netherlands with you. Border controls are very strict. You are not allowed to carry narcotics (drugs) such as hashish, cocaine and heroin across the border, or to import or export these substances. The law is the law, whether you like it or not, isn't it? Respect for the rule of law is one of the fundamental bases of a civilised society. Once you start allowing people to break it, there will be no controls on anyone's behaviour, and no one will be safe. Every country has their own laws and you are reguired to respect and obey them while in that country.
