I've got 2 savage guns. 30-06 and 12 gauge pump shot gun. Love them both. I would not take anything for them. They are well made craftsman ship. A lot of extras. Best deer gun ive ever used and seen. Wood stock and scope right on. This is true American made gun. I sleep with them next to me at night. I clean them even when they don't need cleaned. I've named both of them. Planing on buying several more. These guns are tested in house. Company doesnt wait till they sale them and then wait on the public to find out if there is a defect with them like some company's may do. When I hold these guns it is with a sense of humor and pride. Well Done Lady's and Gentalman . week done.i know our forefathers would be very Proud of you all.

About time. A lot of the straight pulls are hard to find in the US because of importation laws. I hope this becomes more of a option with other companies not just savage.

I'm truly impressed with the innovation in the design of this rifle. If it's safe and reliable Savage has hit it out of the park with this one. I remember picking up an old Canadian Ross rifle a long time ago and wondering why companies weren't making straight pull rifles. The fact it's easily converted to left hand operation is great too.

I want one. But will wait for a 280 Ackley Improved chambering with a 1 in 8 barrel twist rate and a 24 inch threaded barrel. For use of a muzzlebrake or a suppressor.

Really like the concept and as a left hander appreciate the thought that has gone into making it ambidextrous. Only negative is 8.5 lbs is a very heavy hunting rifle nowadays, and with a scope and loaded will weigh 10lbs. Too heavy for this over 60 hunter.
@Aaron-mn8gw4 жыл бұрын
I'd have to agree with you on the weight of the rifle. Just too heavy for most to carry these days. Although would make a good tree stand rifle.

Okay, so the Impulse comes in the 6.5CM and the ever lengthening 30's (308, 30-06, and 300WM). My question is - do these three 30's all use what appears to be a 20-ish" threaded barrel? I've seen plenty of 20" 308 threaded barrels and maybe a few in 30-06... A 20" 300WM sounds like the powder may not have enough time to burn completely, at least that's what I've always heard about why 7mm&300 magnums needed the 26" barrels. I'd like to have one of the Hog Hunters in 30-06/24" or 300WM/26". The threaded barrel doesn't really matter to me unless Savage sold a muzzle break for the model. PS - if Savage came out with one of these in 375H&H... That'd be awesome! Make it a lefty and I'm sure Craig Boddington would take one off your hands, LOL! I'll probably own one of these within the year. Too cool for colored TV!

Nice review, and far more technical information than in the other videos I've seen on this thus far. I'm intrigued with where this design will go. If the accuracy and dependability are there I could see this going into PRS; rapid follow up shots with minimal disturbance of sight picture are of value there.

Looks basically like a copy of a Heym SR-30 action except they use an aluminum receiver. The Heym was tested to over 10,000psi and was in magnum calibers, up to the 375 ruger. No thanks to an aluminum locking/bearing surface.
@John_Redcorn_4 жыл бұрын
The receiver does not contain the pressure in a rifle. All the pressure is within the breach, which is integral to the barrel. AR receivers are aluminum and they work fine. Respectfully, Id think gunsmith are a bit more knowledgable than you and have already tested pressures and not just throw something out willy-nilly. Especially since its Savage: this isnt Kel-Tec

That’s more or less what it boils down to. I always wanted to try a k31, but it looks like it would be more of a pain than a regular bolt action since I can’t get the handle up higher before pushing and pulling.
@MrRdvs874 жыл бұрын
The downside is that I can’t buy a left handed bolt action and then loan it to a right handed shooter to watch them get confused as hell. I’ve loaned friends AR’s with left hand only selectors and I get the sickest pleasure from watching them frantically flick their thumbs before their faces start to look frustrated and bewildered and they tell me that I took the safety off the gun.

@richardahmyt86834 жыл бұрын
@@John_Redcorn_ Floating bolt head just means you can have a less than true receiver face and still have decent lug interface. Means the same for a Fortner action. We can make this with slop so people can afford it and still get reasonable accuracy. 6.5 PRC is by far the most accurate magnum I've experienced. I'm not against this action. It sort of makes sense for a fast magnum. It'll take a DYI AR10 with a Criterion barrel for anything with a 473 bolt face, though.
@John_Redcorn_4 жыл бұрын
@@richardahmyt8683 i mean, how much accuracy do you really need in a hunting rifle? At some point, its the point of diminishing return. A 1/2 moa rifle doesnt offer anything useful over a 3/4 moa gun in the field. Just about any decent off the shelf gun will shoot moa nowdays. I have a “cheap” savage axis 2 in 243 that shoots sub moa with a couple different factory loadings. Im sure this gun will be around moa or better, and will be able tighten that up a bit with handloads the same as any other rifle. Powder, charge weight, and right bullet are always going to be the most important in accuracy. Seating depth, run-out, case consistency, etc. are all really minute gains, if any (for hunting)

Improved? No heyms sr30 is one of the strongest straight-pull actions. It was allready improved.. The downside is the in the US its allways intended to do it "as cheap as possible" why must a straight pull cost 12-1300 dollars? It means companies have to compromise with material of lesser quality, design and triggers. If a nice rifle cost 1500-2000 dollar or more and you can't afford it save for it or don't buy it at all.
