I've been working on this video for a stupid amount of time. There's also a couple of other, slightly longer form videos that have been in the works for ages that I'm going to do my best to get finished over the next few months, as well as all the DLC character stuff and other shorter videos that you'd expect to see. Thanks for subscribing and for being patient while I take forever to make videos.

It seems unreasonable to expect they were done by hand for this type research...but then yeah you are desk, so actually possible?

It's because '256' is a full bite size. I'm guessing the counters in the older games have a storage of value '256' and after it's full, it either ends or resets.
@Unixept
@Unixept 3 жыл бұрын
I am sure you meant that the counter can have a value between 0 and 255, but it can not have a value 256, so it goes back to 0 instead of incrementing further.

So they used a whole byte for the combo counter, when it reaches 256 it overflows and all the previous bits are 0 again, making the counter to reset.

The science behind all his videos is amazing, it helps so much the fundamental understanding of fighting games, but that's not all: his work is not only incredibly interesting, it has fundamental historical relevance in preserving the history of the genre. This shit is SO IMPORTANT Desk: memory, preservation, history. Keep up the good work man Thank you Desk

The 255 combo limit show up often because its the max value of a 2 digits hex ff=255. 256 shows no combo because the Hex value would go back to 00 and that is equal to 0. Due to Pocket Fighter also resetting at 128 hits and it being half of the maximum number of combinations of a 2 digits hex value its also somehow connected to it.

If anyone here's ever played Pocket Rumble, it's possible to get a 10-hit combo with June in training mode that can't be done in an actual match since it requires two clones. When done, the "1" in the 10 won't display. It's possibly covered up by the move history in the training mode, though I theorize that since everyone in this game has 12 hit points, the developers never planned for a character to be able to do 10 in one combo. If anyone wants to try the combo for themselves, put your opponent in the corner and prep a 3A clone from the other side of the screen. To start the combo, input AB and another 3A, then dash forward so that you end up in front of your opponent in between each projectile. Hit them with two 5As while the projectiles are connecting, then a 1A to launch. Use 2B to juggle, and cancel your recovery frames with AB so that you can juggle with another 2B. Finish off with a 1B for 10 total hits.

I was in kindergarten when I discovered it on my own, but didn't know why til I was in high school, and learned it was not the only game to do similar things.
