According to me, the only way to hear a sonic boom is to be there in real life. Sound cannot be faster than sound made by a sonic boom. so it would sound very different in real life. Even a HD camera cannot play the sounds of a sonic boom. unless it can make sounds faster than the speed of sound. which is impossible because thw microphone makes the sonic boom slower

+Sonic The Hedgehog That's possibly the dumbest thing I've read on the Internet this week.
@walternewton32118 жыл бұрын
+Sonic The Hedgehog incorrect, when you say that it make the sonic boom slower, it is called sound lag, it happens on any type of jet and a camera does not affect the sonic boom whatsoever

Why would people dislike the video? It's in the title what the video is about. If you dont like sonic booms dont click on the video and dont watch it duh.
@JohnGreensc8 жыл бұрын
Because none of these are actually flying at super-sonic speeds.. The people whom disliked the video are doing so because it is a false description.
@rutvik238 жыл бұрын
Most of them are actually. You can notice that the sound comes much later after the plane has passed. That's what bascially supersonic means. Faster than sound.
@RHawkeyed8 жыл бұрын
being at some distance from the plane the sound will be delayed compared to the image, no matter the speed. At a significant part of the speed of sound the plane will move significantly during that delay, it doesn't have to exceed the speed of sound for the delay effect to be clear. I do believe some are some are supersonic based on the sound, the ones where the noise starts with a boom. If it simply sounds like a jet engine coming closer then it is subsonic. If it's going at supersonic speed there WILL be a boom.
@rutvik238 жыл бұрын
RHawkeyed From what I know and read "if the plane is traveling at the supersonic speeds, a pressure wave is produced in the shape of the cone whose vertex is at the nose of the plane, and whose base is behind the plane." You can see that effect in most of these and you can clearly hear the boom
@RHawkeyed8 жыл бұрын
As I wrote, the ones with a distinct boom are supersonic (assuming unaltered recording of course :). You cannot avoid the boom at supersonic, but you CAN have the cloud at SUBsonic speed. The cloud is simply water vapour condensing due to change in pressure, it does not need supersonic speed to occur. Of course it is more likely at higher pressure (result of higher speed) and hence it has become associated with supersonic speed, but it really does not need to be supersonic. twistedsifter.com/2012/12/airplane-vapor-cone-of-condensation/

You are wrong, sir, allow me to explain why. You see, the squared quantum physics plus psychology tells us we need correlations to abide the physics of earth. Now then, adhering to Darwinism, we now know that we need microbiology to morph and bind atoms together. Hence, we know compute the variation of earth's orbit plus the temperature of space and we know know why it is hot. Furthermore, taking all the latter into consideration, it becomes evident why that which was in the video is a genuine speed of light derp. In addition, these are all reasons why you are wrong. -Junior B. _KZbin expert: AA in Cosmetology from the University of Phoenix._

The immense power of these planes are absolutely astonishing. I live in Leeds (UK) and we've just had 2 fly over who were authorized to break the sound barrier. When they flew over my house shook, we thought the windows were going to come through and every house and car alarm on the street went off. Up until i found out that it was the planes we all thought something awful had happened nearby. Just goes to show that we're in good hands with such powerful machines keeping us safe.

Just because these jets have a shock cone, doesn't mean they are breaking the sound barrier. It just means they are moving at high speed through moist air.
@danielduyungan73108 жыл бұрын
Not entirely the cone that comes behind the plane is sound waves being compressed and actually touching each other, how ever they they have to stay faster that 340. M/s to stay ahead of the speed of sound also the cone that is created is called "Mach one" which is as I said 340 m/s... But the part you said is also right because of air and moisture :)

@southjerseysound73408 жыл бұрын
+DtRockstar1 There are a few test ranges where you can get close enough to get lucky (one the call coyote or something)although here in SNJ we hear them every once in a while as they have a test track where they fly over the Atlantic and at times you'll hear them on land.They arent that loud on land here but you hear the boom and feel the windows shake even though its quite far.We actually had about 7-8 of them the other day but if you want to get real close you can "go fishing"out near the test track off the coast here.

Most of these are sub sonic. If there's no crack/boom they aren't flying faster than the speed of sound. The water vapor condensing into various shapes and patterns can and do happen below the speed of sound and are no indication of being above the sound barrier.
@RHawkeyed8 жыл бұрын
Because light is faster than sound. About 340 meters results in about a second of lag. It simply has to move fast so it has moved significantly before you hear the sound, not necessarily faster than sound.
@NukeMyHouse8 жыл бұрын
The sound still has to travel. The plane is still moving close to the speed out sound.

"No boom boom, no joy joy". That's exactly how it was described to me when we lived in NAS Jax when I when 6.
@barchetta575m8 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily accurate. A shock wave is a very abrupt disturbance in a medium. The jets shown here create the shock waves by making the sound waves merge together. Since it's traveling at the speed of sound, each individual sound wave has no time to get out of the way before the next wave comes. The waves compound on top of each other to create one giant shock wave. If you could listen to this wave, what you would hear is called a sonic boom.

most of the hornet passes were subsonic, the F18 dosen't have enough smash at low altitude to reliably fly supersonic in all atmospheric conditions. in warm,dry air it can. also, the vapor cone isnt an indicator that the plane is flying supersonic.

@willoughbykrenzteinburg9 жыл бұрын
+Patrick Star They all broke the sound barrier. There are always two booms - if you only hear one, it's because one was either not loud enough or they are too close together to distinguish between them or a combination of the two. In fact, the FASTER it's moving, the less likely you will hear two distinct booms. The reason you hear a boom is from the pressure difference. There is one at the front of the plane and another at the back, so the time between booms is literally the time it takes a plane to fly its own length. So, the faster it's going, the closer together the booms are - so it's literally the opposite of what you are saying. The plane where you hear two distinct booms is the slowest plane of the bunch - all of which are faster than the speed of sound.

Anyway, many people with pony profile pics are "bronies," which refers to adult or otherwise older fans of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Bro+pony=brony. Though some bronies are unhealthily obsessed and literally pervert the show, that is only a small amount of the fanbase. They are most of the reason why bronies tend to get hated on, along with the fact that haters like to think that people who make a small reference to the show, make a crossover video mixing the show with something else, or have a pony profile pic are doing nothing but shoving the show in people's faces. That could not be further from the truth. Most bronies, like myself, just love the show and that's all there is to it.

Worth, TX) and the depth of the bass and the overall blast sensation is pretty intense, especially when you're playing in your front yard and not expecting it. Evidently, the folks at Carswell were asked to do these tests over nearby Lake Worth or at higher altitudes as many residents near the base were complaining of cracked windows and items falling from indoor shelves. But I always loved them! You're going along and playing with your POW!!!, and a smile comes to your shocked face as you say "Wow!".

And to think that Concorde could fly past at almost twice the speed you see these jets pass while the passengers were sipping Champagne and eating Caviar! Mind blowing!
@rfarevalo Жыл бұрын
Concords would slow to subsonic as they approached each continent and their destination. One of the reasons they were limited to overseas routes. land bases sonic booms are a liability and unpopular.
@faze_dave2188 жыл бұрын
maybe, because the speed is so high, the sound can't keep up with the real thing, so the sound comes up late. maybe, just maybe

Devin Kroupa *you're The contraction "you're" is created when the writer combines the two english words "you" and "are." The letter "a" is removed, creating an implicit meaning and shortening the two words to a single, 5-letter phrase. He did not own "a dumbass." It was not his a dumbass. "Your" indicates ownership. Ok…grammar lesson over…have a nice day. And btw…HE'S right…the speed of sound is the maximum velocity at which sound can travel…it's kind of mind-blowing.

Growing up in North St. Louis county, Missouri we were just a few miles northeast of Boeing. Used to be McDonnell Douglas. We heard sonic booms almost every day. I thought everybody could hear them and knew what they were. It was years later before I saw one. Pretty cool stuff

You guys realize those jets are releasing co2 into our atmosphere?
@MyLari9410 жыл бұрын
How is one jet going to do any damage to our atmosphere when there are millions of cars just in 1 city. Btw thats why we have plants they take in the CO2, 2nd grade science buddy.

Is it possible an aircraft to avoid a locked missile by braking the sound barrier?
@kaerringstopp10 жыл бұрын
If they're made in DPRK perhaps
@ualapil10 жыл бұрын
No, the shock from sonic boom is not nearly enough to disrupt the missile and AA-missiles are themselves quite fast (M2 - M4+).

impossible. for example... S-400 anti air missile can travel at mach 10+.

The audios/microphones capture how they sound subsonic, if they were filmed from half a mile further away, as you hear it from your computer. In reality, it's deafening when things like jets break the sound barrier. And, I should add, it appears they just wanted to showcase the vapor generated by breaking the sound barrier as they passed the crowd. They can go far faster. Hitting that speed at that precise moment is a mark of peerless training and years of experience. I recall my first air show, when I was about 6 years old. Nothing too outstanding besides the Harrier, and the F-16C that passed by supersonic. The F-16C wasn't holding back like the guys in this video collection. When it approached, I caught a spec on the horizon, by happenchance. And only after it had passed did the announcer finish what had just scared the bajeezus out of the spectators. There was a glass company along its approach. The sonic boom from the F-16C shattered a great deal of their products. Engineering and technology is pretty rad. Mad respect for these pilots.

They are not truly going supersonic and breaking the sound barrier...if they did all of their eardrums would be ruptured

Pretty sure breaking the sound barrier doesn't cause enough decibel's to rupture an eardrum. If those aren't sonic booms in the video, then what are they? It would be unpleasant to the ears, sure. But to rupture an eardrum? Nah

So awesome... I'll never forget one time at an air show at Edwards AFB (or was it ARB, whatever) a stealth fighter went super sonic and at the exact moment I heard the boom, I had turned my head and was looking down the barrel of a tank cannon. Now THAT was freaky!

I remember 2 jets, 1 a single engine, Prob an -F-16 and another Probably an F-15 breaking the sound barrier over Pt Pleasant Nj back in like 1977. I thought something crashed. I remember the force in which it hit, I loved every second of it. I later understood. But I wonder to this day what they scrambled out for in New Jersey??

My husband is retired Air Force and we got stationed on an Air Force base that had fighter jets back in 1990. One afternoon they broke the sound barrier and it sounded like the sky broke open. The sonic boom lasted for a few seconds. When I looked out our living room window there were 4 or 5 fighter jets flying in formation overhead. It was kind of cool. There was no air show going on, it was just a basic day.
