As a climber in the V7-V9 range, I find there are not to many videos of how to progress past this level and I appreciate that one of my favourite climbing channels is helping me
@biomorphic9 күн бұрын
Because there are not many climbers at that level. I think V9 might be Elite level?
@jonathanyes1129 күн бұрын
@@biomorphicno way v9 is elite level, you can get there whilst climbing recreationally. I’d argue elite is at least v13 tbh
@biomorphic9 күн бұрын
@@jonathanyes112 I think at V13 you are probably a professional with a sponsor. To be fair I am not sure who can even climb V13 in the gym.
@Asdfghjkl-ls1or9 күн бұрын
V3 beginner/novice V7 intermediate V9 advanced V11 semi-pro V13 elite Something like that bearing in mind grade inconsistencies in the lower ranges
@jonathanyes1129 күн бұрын
@@biomorphic you don’t really get v13s in commercial gyms, because only elite level climbers do that grade, v9 however is usually seen because it’s not unexpected for any given centre to have v9 climbers

Kudos to anyone willing to take coaching lessons on camera I don't like the idea of failing in front of someone trying to help, take that and add thousands of witnesses on a timeless platform and i could easily see plenty of people shying away. But to push past this to better yourself, and help those potential thousands to better themselves as well, it really screams "I have healthy priorities and a sense of comfort with myself" and i love that for everyone that guest stars in this channel

you're such a good teacher / coach !!! Just giving the nuances as a tip to improve and let the student find its way to get passed the problem. And always have this positive mindset of seeing the good parts in any failure👍😃

Terrific video. Thanks for such good vibes.Paola is awesome, and Sam, thanks for the music that fits with the overall good, positive and upbeat vibes just feeding off Paola's vibes. The work behind the scenes is appreciated. The work in front of the camera was awesome. Even though I am stuck at V4-6, it was awesome to hear the mental side of staying positive, and it's got me at least trying and projecting higher grades even if I can't finish them in the time they are up.....YET. Positive vibes like this is exactly why most of us follow Catalyst. Thanks for all the time and effort!

Looks like Louis' long arms really help with the move at 21:14, he's able to sink in an extra head (I guess 8-9 inches?) deeper before generating the pull off of the pinches, vs Paola who's already pretty close to max span. He has perfect morphology for that specific type of move.
@hotbeefo6 күн бұрын
Well spotted, it probably also helps him get hips further to the right and over the right foothold to drive up and around. Since he can have his shoulders farther from the left hand hold without being too extended.

when she was trying the second problem i thought what about instead of matching on the sloper you get the left hand on with the toe hook and then just fall into the crimp and then bump the left hand but if it works it works.

A variety of climbers at each level from all strength and style abilities would be great to see how people look while climbing just to critique and learn from. See what they do well and what they coupd do better because its obvious looking at someone else making a mistake and less so looking at ourselves

Thanks for the video Louis! I feel pretty firmly stuck in this range (gym) and have recently realized that maybe my grip positions play a role. I have a habit of straightening my index finger whilst curling the rest on crimps which means that I don’t really ever full/closed crimp because my thumb doesn’t engage on either my index or the hold. This is apparently called a “chisel grip” and is something that I feel is holding me back from breaking through my plateau. I’m dreading spending time on the hangboard to practice my half/full crimp but at this point feels necessary since my index doesn’t really apply downward force 😅 Maybe a video idea could be explaining and demonstrating the effect that different grip types have in this grade range?

With coordination moves it's almost just a case of throwing yourself at it until your body automatically understands tne movement. There really isn't much you can do with your mind, other than visualize the order of the moves.

I could practice a hundred years and wouldn't be able to do that red slab / dyno thing. Crazy coordination.
@jacksonwhitcup11859 күн бұрын
It stood out to me on the second boulder, you tried the toehook move once and found it difficult to leverage the toehook, and maybe put too much emphasis in that subjective feeling? Because to me watching, both the link she made from the bottom and her send go, she intuitively found a way to shift her hips left to engage the toe while while keeping her upper body more opposed to the sloper. Did you have any thoughts about it when you watched this back? When you try problems with your clients, how do you try to translate your subjective interpretation into something more empirical?
