😭😭My big brother was a Franciscan priest for 39 years. For special anniversaries my family would "gift" him custom made stoles. Since I was about his size the tailor that made the stoles used me as a "sewing" dummy.

The oldest vestment we still regularly use in our parish is a 15th century red chasuble with exquisite embroidery. It is one of only a few vestments that could be saved during the 1566 iconoclasm. When I help the priest get dressed in this chasuble I feel connected with the church of all ages. With all the brothers and sisters who came before us.

🟣🔴🏆 Catholics are arrayed in purple and scarlet. They are decked in gold and precious stones. The pope has a golden cup in his hand. Revelation 17 KJV 4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: I really appreciate the Catholics putting on their colors identifying who they are .

Father , I am from India. Despite being born a catholic and bought up in a very strong catholical environment and household and having a very strong catholical ancestral roots in my family , I wasn't much interested in catholism. My focus and interest was shifted to other religions and denominations in Christianity to know the way they are different from us and the impeccablity of difference in beliefs in us and them. Only after watching ur channel videos I realized the beauty of my religion and my church as being the holy apostolic church founded by Christ himself through Peter. Only after watching your videos I gained a strength in my religion and become more interested in performing my religious duties as a member of the Catholic church. Thank you for inspiring us to embrace the beauty of catholism . Do continue your service for the glory of God by posting many videos like this and strengthing our faith in the Catholic church. It is only by your videos that I realized that our church is the very continuation of the church our Lord has established himself and not formed because of heretical movement protesting against and dividing the very Church , Christ has founded. Even now I don't know whether you will see this message or will reply to this message, but I felt that it is my duty to express my Thanks and gratitude to bring this 19yr old teenage sinner back to his home , and strengthing his faith in his holy family. I will always keep you in my prayers Father . Do keep me too in your prayers Father. 😊😊

As a young child, i wasn't very religious (even today, i sometimes miss the weekly mass, forgive me Lord), but one of the main reasons I cam to church and wanted to serve the altar, was the vestments of the altar servers in my parish. @@paulbriere4872to be fair, the Eastern rite vestments shown are direct equivalents of Latin ones. I'm guessing it was a gaff though.
@ianinachaninah
@ianinachaninah 11 күн бұрын
@@njmaryannez It's not. It's a phelonion and an epitrachelion. The vestments look like a cope from afar, but they're pretty hard to miss if you're Orthodox or probably even Eastern Catholic. The vestments in the thumbnail also look very identical to Russian Orthodox vestments, so I wondered if there were similarities with the Eastern Rite Catholics.

@@inregionecaecorum The term "Catholic" is just one of the four marks of the Church. So every Church claiming to be Apostolic(like high Church Anglican, Oriental Orthodox, Eastern Orthodox, Assyrian Church of the East, etc..) would call themselves "Catholic". It's just that people started associating the term "Catholic" with one particular Church only due to theological Ignorance and the tendency to not make things complicated.

Other important Roman vestments not mentioned: - Maniple Vestment for the TLM to signify the hard work of the priest - Tunic Vestment for the sub-deacon similar to the dalmatic for the deacon, also worn by bishops in a pontifical TLM underneath the dalmatic and the chasuble. - Humeral veil Used by priests to hold the monstrance or by sub-deacons in the TLM - Pallium White cloth with 7 crosses for an archbishop - Biretta For covering the head of the priest when he is not saying prayers. Similar to how monastic priests can cover their head with the cap of their habit. There are many more vestments in the Catholic Church; some unique to specific rites, some reserved for the Pope and others only in faint memories. Truly a beautiful part of Catholic tradition

In Norway also Evangelic Lutheran priests wear the alb, stole and the chasuble (only during Eucharist and throughout the whole mass on Christmas Day, New year's Day, Easter Sunday and Pentecost Sunday or if it's special feasts). The cope is only used by bishops and bishops also wear a purple 🟣 shirt. I do prefer the catholic vestments. The liturgy is also very similar to the catholic liturgy. A typical Norwegian high mass: Prelude and hymn, greeting, confession of sin, Kyrie, Gloria, 1. reading, hymn, 2. reading, the Gospel, homily, Credo, hymn, intercessions, Eucharist with Sanctus, Our Father, Angus Dei, hymn, blessings and sending (ité missa est). So we are not that much different in the liturgy.

Could you talk about deacons and what exactly they do in their day to day? Thanks
@dustinduncan2444
@dustinduncan2444 11 күн бұрын
Most Catholic deacons are employed in secular jobs, so our day to day activities vary by each man (the church makes no provision to support the worldly needs of deacons and their families). My cohort had dentists, airline pilots, computer programmers, and a dozen other professions. Maybe only 5-10% of my classmates were retired from secular jobs at ordination so our duties varies by profession and state in life. What is common in the day to day is the requirement to pray the liturgy of the hours. Deacons are also supposed to take the light of Christ into the communities they serve. That is why you often find deacons serving in areas like prison ministry, serving the elderly, the sick and the infirm, or wherever their bishop needs them. That last part is an important point. While a deacon might be assigned to assist the pastor in a specific parish, we ultimately "belong" to our bishop. It is why when a bishop celebrates mass that those nearest him are his deacons. We promise loyalty and obedience to our bishop and his successors, not to the priest that oversees the parish where we are assigned. That doesn't mean we don't respect the priest's, but to make it clear that we are representatives of the bishop and ultimately serve at his discretion. Personally I am just glad that Father even mentioned deacons since we are often the forgotten members of the clergy.

Technically, though not a liturgical color or a Marian color, due to its role in the defense and propagation of the Inmaculate Conception, the Kingdom of Spain (and from Spain it old colonies) has the Papal privilege to use blue on the Solemnity of the Inmaculate Conception, but only on this day, not on all Marian feasts. In Latin American, the privilege has been extended by local ordinaries only to the Marian patroness of the country, but not all ordinaries have decided to do so.

The king enterd the doorway and saw to his dismay; A krippled old widow, and children in array; 'T shure wasn't pretty, the mood shure wasn't gay; King 'said fine lady, what food you serve today;' She replied: Behold the pot; You may rest here and stay: Let the children eat the rocks; Lest they starve, I have no more. For example, lay people using the "orans" position? Holding hands during the our father? Where are these things in the general instruction? They are nowhere to be found. In fact, the opposite is stated. The orans posture belongs to the priest only. Why is tradition so hated? Not specifically calling out Fr. Casey because I've not seen all of his content to know whether he has commented on the examples I provided. It just gets under my skin when there's a double standard about what's allowed at mass. If it's pre-conciliar it is attacked, if it is a liberal innovation, it is celebrated or at the very least not stopped. Bishops will ban ad orientem in their dioceses, but let numerous things that also do not appear on the GIRM slide. Be consistent.

@@okcivicx Actually, in Italy the Italian Bishops Conference has issued a direction in 2017 where it specified that during the "Our Father" it is allowed the use of the "orans" pose for the faithful, and this direction is now present in the missal. Oh, and actually the "orans" pose is way older than the Concile, since it was the original pose of prayer for the first Christians.

priest can (and I think should) also wear cassocks - usually over pants and a shirt, although it can go on right over underwear (I believe) - as their standard clothing. I think it is an exceptionally good idea - for priests to stand out as they go throughout daily life - especially in the community outside the church itself.

During my ccd studies, before my 1st communion in the early 2000's. We watched an educational movie in class about Pope John Paul II. It said that when choosing a new garment during the 1970's, he chose a golden one with seashells embeded down the center. I maybe wrong about some details since that was so long ago, but yes the robe was real. I don't suppose that there's any orange colored ones? Orange is my favorite. The history of the chasuble presented was a bit askew, the fiddle-back and gothic chasubles were not developed contemporaneously from altering the conical design. During the middle ages there was a slow cutting down in proportions to create what we would recognise as the gothic form, and then post reformation the reduction rapidly increased and eventually changed the form rather dramatically. Later baroque models appear almost like an apron rather than a poncho. I think all the different cuts are rather wonderful, although being English I am biased to the gothic form (it bringing to mind the pereformation English church).

reading the bible front to back (Genesis -> Revelation) is probably the worst way to approach it the first time. Start with John. It is the Gospel presented from the perspective of Christ's love for us. It's the foundation. Then move into Acts, followed by Paul's epistles. You will have a great foundation then, so that when you go back to the Old Testament you will already understand what the prophesies are about. Lots of lightbulbs will come on. A really fun way is to get a study bible. When you read something cool, look at the footnotes and see where else in the bible that subject relates to. Go down the rabbit holes and really enjoy the journey.

Listen to Bible in a year to see how the Old and New Testaments coincide with each other. You can follow along reading your Bible. Fr Mike Schmitz reads a couple verses from both, then explains them.
