Bream on surface lures testing the Daiwa Luvias 20 spin reel. Were back on the Bemm River part of our east Gippsland fishing trip. This time we mix things up moving from soft plastics onto surface lures for some topwater bream fishing action. So much fun watching bream smash a OSP Bent minnow surface lure in clear and shallow waters.
Join us on awesome fishing adventures by Land, Kayak, Boat & Jet Ski with lures & bait to catch local saltwater & freshwater fish species. Our channel is fun, relatable, and features world class fishing action and tips. We hope you enjoy the content.

The bream fishing in that part of the world must be something else. Looks like a beautiful place too.

Yeah it sure is some of the best bream fisheries imaginable at Bemm River, Marlo, lake Tyers, Gippsland Lakes Hollands landing, so many more I could add to that list. Between a short time frame and really bad weather we really didn't get a chance to explore it all. But will do again at some stage

Your dad is 100% right, its pretty epic up there. I only spent 1 day and must have caught 50+ bream, and a few other species too. You'll love it when you go up there, not much else around but the fishing is excellent.

What a great session. Was that an Atomic Arrowz surface or crank you were using for the bent minnow? Great rods...
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Pete. Yeah 100% i was using the Atomic Hardz Crank rod for all the hard body lures and surface lures and using the Daiwa EX 702 for all the plastics fishing on our venture up to gippsland. Those atomic rods are unbelievable value. Great action for a low cost rod.

Hi Alan,from your experience are you likely to catch good sized bream with the bent minnow and grub plastic in Melbourne metro areas like Marybirnong river where you have made other videos where you used live worms for bait?
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Shannon. 100% bream love soft plastics and surface lures wherever you fish. That being said the Nong has been always been a notoriously difficult spot to catch bream on lures and plastics. I dont know why. when land base fishing there i can catch 20 on a good session with bait but nowhere near as many with lures and plastics. Hoping to spend a bit more time trying to work it out over winter. Hope that helps

Dead right, have got a couple of the Bream Crank, A Bream Surface, Estuary and the lovely little Skinny Water rod too. What was the reel on the Daiwa? It seemed to have a lovely drag.
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
100% agreed, Yeah the reel on the Atomic rod was a Daiwa Sol 3 2500 and the reel on the infeet outfit was a 20 Luvias 2000. Both great reels

Hi Alan, When it’s that weedy are you letting your grub hit the bottom? Does it snag much? Or are you keeping the retrieve higher?
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sean, most bites that day were happening after only a few seconds of the plastic hitting the water. ( they were in an aggressive mood ) Because it was so shallow and weedy I was either using a 1/20 jig head with soft plastics and working them slowly but not to slow that they got lots of weed, and the surface lures worked really slowly on the top. I hope that helps, let me know if there is any other detals I can help with.

Yes Alan! About 6 months ago do you remember I told you about the atomic arrowz and how you have to get 1. And you said you were sponsored and couldn't show it in a vid. How good are they! Great vid mate!
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
I do remember and Yeah I agree they are fantastic. Amazing value for money. I was very surprised at the action and sensitivity for a rod at that price point. I purchased it literally 10 minutes before our trip away as I was expecting some gear that didn't arrive on time. I'm keen to potentially get the surface one as well even though the crank version is very versatile.

@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I do like there ultra light stuff that's for sure. I bought a handful of their new infeet rolling cranks last week. I haven't had a chance to use them just yet. Interesting redesign as they are quite smaller than most of the other cranks on the market but they do look good. I never caught as many bream on their older cranks as other brands so will be interesting to see how they go.

Thanks Elliot. I really appreciate it. I've only just started using the Atomic Arrowz rods. Great value for money. I was using the crank version and it was very versatile and responsive for hard body lures, cranks and surface lures. Once I've used it a little more ill try and get something out, but for the price point they are excellent options.

Hi Peter, have a look at this vid if you get a chance. i talk in detail about how to use the lures kzbin.info/www/bejne/f36zn4CtqLdkb7s for bents i generally cast out and let it sit there for about 10 seconds enough time for the ripples to disperse. Than follow that up with2 or 3 real strong downward twitches and again a lengthy pause. Do that all the way back to where your fishing. Keep moving around with surface lures there usually isn't much point casting the same spot over and over again. Hopefully the vid will explain and show this much better.
