Breast Biopsy Experiance

Different from my usual videos, but I thought
I'd share because knowing what will happen during
a procedure can make it less scary. :)
I didn't get any pictures or footage of the procedure.
Please feel free to ask questions in the comments, and I'll do my best to answer them!
Things I forgot to mention in the video:
- The procedure took about 45 minutes to an hour. (waiting time included)
-The test results came back negative. (meaning nothing is cancerous, but they want me to come back in 6 months to re-check and make sure it wasn't a false negative.)

Thank you so so much for this video! I just turned 18 and I've had a lump for about 6 months and am finally dealing with it. I got an ultrasound and now I'm going for a biopsy in a few days. My doctor is sure that we'll be removing it. Your video has helped calm me down quite a bit, but I'm currently living in Cuba and their procedures are kind of different along with sterilization and anesthesia. Again, thank you for making this video, it's definitely comforting to know that other people have made it through this

I had mine 3 days ago. I had a hematoma, bo bruising is really bad. The procedure itself was not too bad. I had 4 samples removed. Mine is malignant. Going in for breast MRI next week and consult with my medical team a few days after. Your description is fantastic. Exactly what happened.

Hi Ariel, I am glad you have access to the care you need. I hope you are getting better. My sister has taught me some of the things women go through in life. She is currently in Nigeria, and recently having pains and rashes on her breast after she had a breast lumps removal. Unfortunately no hospital in Nigeria does biopsy test to determine what causes the pain and rashes. She is currently living each day in fear of the unknown. I hope we get some help.

Hi ladies, I had my core biopsy today at UCH in London. I have to say I didn't feel anything when I was given the anesthetic. No burning and anything like that. Doctor told me I may feel burning feeling so I waited for it but luckily it was fine. My breast has 9 lumps in it the biggest is 3cm. Please do your self check ups as often you can really. Thanks for posting this! I have a mammogram and ultrasound tomorrow afternoon; the next week I have my consultation to find out if I will need a biopsy or anything. As someone who has lost loved ones to breast cancer, having lots of info helps me to stay calm in the face of this uncertainty. And thanks for the tip about the sports bra; if I need a biopsy, I will definitely buy a new one! (My current one doesn't really fit well.)

I'm sorry you're scared; I was too! I have anxiety about procedures- especially when I don't know what to expect! Ask if you can have a friend or family member (maybe your mom or a sister) be in the room with you. Having someone there to hold your hand would make it a little less scary! Mine didn't allow my husband in with me because they said the room was too small, but I think it was also because it was a women only section of the hospital. I hope it goes well! Yes. Your way of describing your experience was pretty close to my experience as well. Just had my biopsy done today. I felt nothing when he was going inside with a needle in my breast. I obviously did feel the first two Prix of the lidocaine anesthesia that he gave me beforehand and his pressing down on my boob ...but that was it. Before I knew it he was done! I feel like I got myself a little more worked up then I should have with nerves and all. Lol. Thank you for your video. Hope all is good with you now. God bless.

I had a breast biopsy today I was afraid you don't know what to expect but the procedure went fast after the procedure I was a bleeder I went in at 1 p.m. I started around 1:35 I couldn't leave until 3:30 because I couldn't stop bleeding. Everyone of the teams Dr. Was awesome. I'm home recovering very sore. I will be getting my results in 5 days can't go back to work until Monday. I didn't feel no pain while it was happening.

I wanted you you to know that I got my results and I was informed I have Breast Cancer my heart is dropping just so much i have had headaches every day since than. They sent me to the Oncologist first instead of the surgeon waste of time there has to be a better way. EARLY DETECTION IS SO IMPORTANT. My mammogram came back questionable..I was then referred to a radiologist for a breast ultrasound and that came back showing 2 separate complex areas one in each breast. After that result, I was referred to a breast specialist/surgeon for 2nd opinion. Im scheduled for a biopsy procedure very soon. I’m terrified and I know I shouldn’t be but scared... thank you for video. I wish my mom was here with me 😂 I’m trying to be brave but I’m scared. I don’t want breast cancer!! 😂 What a year this has been.

I agree- early detection is very important! Although it's terrifying, I definitely am glad I got the lump in my breast checked out. I feel so much better knowing that it's not dangerous! I totally understand the fear and worry- I had the same fears and worries! It's not that you shouldn't be scared, because it's totally okay to be scared. But what really matters is that you used bravery to set up an appointment and find out what going on rather than sitting in worry and continue to be afraid.

Hey Ariel, thank you for sharing this experience! I’m scheduled for biopsy next Wednesday. I’ve had masses since I was 21 and I’m now 31 years old. They were never concerned before but since I have a family history they need to make sure. The radiologist mentioned it is Fibroadenomas I have a total of 4 so I’m getting both breasts biopsied. Did they mention to you what kind of mass you have? I went to check because I have pain in my right breast like a small shooting pain that causes discomfort but I also have cysts so they said that’s what’s causing the pain and they’ll biopsy that cyst just because it’s bothering me. I’m trying to stay calm I found out last Friday I need Biopsy and I went to see my primary doctor and he took a look at the results and assured me it’s not cancer but they need to be certain because radiologist get sued left and right for not being thorough. How long did your procedure take? I’m scared for the procedure because it’s hard for me to feel confined and that I’m not able to get up and take a break if I feel any panic attacks coming on. Hey Angela! I’m so sorry you’ve had those experiences! Even if we’re told it’s likely not cancer, it can always be so concerning thinking that there may be a small chance it is. Having both breasts biopsied is daunting! I know it’s super nerve wracking, but just remember that good nurses and doctors will treat you with compassion and empathy. If you haven’t already, I’d highly recommend letting them know that you’re very anxious about the procedure and that you suffer from anxiety attacks and ask them if there’s anything that can be done in case it happens during the procedure. That way, they’re aware. Also, if you’re someone that’s concerned about not knowing what’s going on, ask them if they can talk to you and let you know what’s happening as the procedure is happening. This really helped me feel more confident with my nurse and doctor. Remembering that they likely do these procedures every day helped too. 💜 My cyst is a solid one, rather than liquid. I’m not sure what the technical name for it is. 😂 But it’s still there and I still feel it, it just has a microchip in it now. If you’re concerned with feeling confined, maybe calling the clinic ahead of time and letting them know that you’re concerned with being in a small space, they can prepare to use a larger room if they have one! If you ask the day of or when you arrive, it’s likely they’d be less likely to oblige due to them likely already having set a room up for the procedure. Reminding the nurses and doctor that you’re anxious in tight spaces, will make it easier for you to find a way to work with them and visa versa, to find a way for them to work with you so you’re comfortable. 😊

thanks for the video. I am 52 Yrs old and am told I need a biopsy because of a mass actually 2 of them, this is a first for me! Cancer does not run in my family so I am kinda skeptical. I do have fibrous breast so I don't know but anyway hope it's nothing and I am going ahead with the biopsy because it's better to know that everything is Ok. Thank you for sharing this :) I have recently had just a horrible experience trying to get a breast MRI done for an extremely small spot that was found on my mammogram but not on ultrasound. First appt. they had to cancel and move, 2nd appt the machine broke down half way through ugh. Dr and I have both decided to just get the biopsy, might be quicker at this point lol. I was a bit concerned and your video helped answer some of the questions I had.

I didn’t have to lay face down for mine- I honestly can’t remember now what my procedure was called, but they had me lay on my back and would move the breast tissue themselves to help guide the needle/gun.

what was the painful bit? Isnt the needle going in with numbing liquid like a holiday or flu jab? Nurses tell me its not painful so how did you feel pain? Was it the numbing liquid in the boob or the actual needle piercing the skin? You've put me right off and why wd you feel pain if they use a local and numbing gel on skin? Help me as there is no way on earth im getting it done until I know exactly what kind of pain and how long that pain lasted? thanx.

+ppppppppppp in my case, I did feel a burning sensation while they were numbing the inside path to the nodule in the boob. I can't say that's how it will be for everyone because it does depend on each individual. But in my case, it stung a lot. I didn't feel the needle puncture the skin due to the numbing gel they used before hand, but they used needles in my case similar to how they do dental procedures where they inject numbing agent around the area they'll be working in on the outside. The burning sensation in my case lasted about 10-15 seconds.

Just got mind done on my right breast last Thursday, I’m not going to say it didn’t hurt. My biopsy had to go deep so mines hurt. I’m still still in pain after a week.

+dagoodnessone I did have sensitivity in that area, but I honestly think it was probably due to me obsessing over that area and touching it so much. Lol But other than that, no. I contacted my primary first to have her check it out and she directly set up an appointment with a ultrasound tech; I never ended up seeing my obgyn about it. ♥️

Ariel I am still very scared but your video does help calm me a lil they did find a mass in my left breast and when I went too my doctor she was upset because I have not set my biopsy appointment...not only that mine does have fluid...Seriously I'm trying too be calm but I can't 😞

Hi Cynthia, As nerve wracking as it is to get a breast biopsy, it's much better to know what your dealing with than to not know at all! Not only that, but earliest detection possible gives you the upper hand if your test results come back less than ideal.

I had a bruise for 6 months on and off and asked for a mammogram and they found a tumor in it. I ended up getting a lumpectomy or excisional biospy to confirm the diagnosis. It was a Fibroadenoma. Now I’m more educated in breast cancer. I told the hospital I thought it was cancer and they said I was crazy and I ended up getting a birad score of a 5.

I have a consultation with the surgeon, for a biopsy in both breast, I'm super worried cause I'm having to have biopsy on both. my dad passed away of lung cancer and his mom, my grand mom of cancer also. I'm 40 and am very scared right now.

+Lavonda Walters I'm so sorry you're feeling scared and anxious right now, and it sounds like you've experienced scary things in the past that are causing even more anxiety towards your procedure now, which is totally understandable! On the flip side, you're taking such a brave step by getting things checked out! By doing that, you're saying 'no' to fear, even though it scares you; and that's brave!! Know that you're not alone, you have people there to support you and who want to help you through; whether it's good news or not. Sending strength and support to you, beautiful! You've got this! No, my scar is about 1/4” round spot. But, everyone’s bodies heal differently so it may be different for you. 🙂

I'm sorry your nervous! It's normal to be nervous for something like that. But remember it's better to know what you're dealing with than to stay in the dark! And the sooner doctors know what it is, the sooner they can know how to help. :) Mine is still there. Unless it's found to be cancerous, I think it's standard procedure to just tag it and leave it. (They put a small chip in mine so that if it was cancerous, they can find it again easily and if it's not, they'll be able to see it on a mammogram and know it's not cancerous.)
