My BMI is 34 and I am booked for a reduction and lipo. I am still wondering if I should go on with the procedure because I am in the obese category. Please advise

I would discuss your concerns with your internist and surgeon. It's very possible your BMI is artificially elevated due to your large breasts. If you have been medically cleared for surgery, you should be good to go!

I found this really interesting, thanks. Can you please explain the difference between a breast lift and a breast reduction?

Hi Heather! So glad you enjoyed this episode! A breast lift and breast reduction utilize a similar incision, the big difference is that for a reduction breast tissue is removed, whereas in a breast lift the breast tissue is preserved. A breast lift changes the position of the breast but does not make a significant difference in size. Hope that helps!

Hi Heather, yes in nearly all cases a breast reduction also lifts the breast. We have discussed breast lifts on several episodes but have not dedicated a full episode to breast lift. We will make that a future episode for sure! Thank you!

Quick question - how big do your breasts have to be to be able to get a breast reduction? I'm 5'1 and quite small with very large breasts and i would want to get a breast reduction making them as small as possible. Thank you for the video.

Great question! For a self-pay cosmetic breast reduction there is no starting size minimum but typically women want to reduce by at least one cup size to be considered a true reduction and not a breast lift. For a breast reduction to be covered by insurance the determination is based off your BMI and the amount of tissue to be removed. Hope that helps!

Great question! Many women 60+ seek out breast reduction. As with all elective procedures, as long as you are in good health without comorbidities (diabetes, heart diesease, etc) you are likely a great candidate for a breast reduction. Why wait? You've lived with very large breasts your whole life, time to drop the extra breast weight!

Thank you for watching! Most surgeons will require that you have a BMI under 30 to proceed with surgery. There may be some wiggle room there based on the size of your breasts as very large breasts may skew the BMI scale.
