Dr. Harness and Dr. Robert Smith of the American Cancer Society explain microcalcifications, which are often a concern for women as they show up as white spots on a mammogram. "Calcifications are normal in the breast," says Dr. Smith. "Generally most women will have at least some. They also tend to be associated with abnormalities and they tend to be associated with cancer, which is one of reasons why it is very important to evaluate their morphality."
