For getting grease out of clothing (especially if they've dried once), dish soap is one option. Cornflour (or cornstarch) is excellent for any remaining stain. You'll have to dust it off/wash it again for both grease-soaking options.

To be honest, I'd probably wear the jumper even with an oil stain but even if you're not comfortable with that there must be a way to cover it with an embroidered embellishment or a patch or something. 🙂💛

Neat! The hardest part of breastfeeding in the cooler months for me has been always needing to find a somewhat warm spot. It just gets cold, even with breastfeeding jumpers. I really miss the flexibility and freedom I had in summer of comfortably breastfeeding anywhere when out and about or in nature.

I've had some success getting oil stains out of clothing but putting a generous dab of dawn liquid soap (the blue kind) on the spot, letting it sit for 5-10 minutes and then throwing it into the wash immediately. It works best if they stain has not set (you have not washed it).

When I was breastfeeding I also bought one of the wrap-around breastfeeding covers and when not in use you can wear it as a scarf. I worked wonders for extra warmth and with some of the more difficult tops and public situations.

Chalk works on oil stains. I use a big chunky white chalk (the sort kids use for drawing hopscotch on pavements) to get oil out of clothes. I rub it all over the oily area inside and out so that it’s completely covered in chalk and chuck it in the wash
@sllagnire Жыл бұрын
Breastfeeding in the winter definitely takes it to a whole other level! I mostly just wore my summer breastfeeding tops with a sweater or sweatshirt on top of it. If not that, then the tanks (or vests as you call them) underneath are a must! My daughter was born in December of 2019 and self weaned around 10.5 months, so I never really had to worry about feeding her much in winter (after the initial mostly just feeding her at home phase) since she was weaned in October. My son is about to turn 1 this weekend, and we are down to just one feed in the morning. It has been so nice to get back to some non breastfeeding clothes!

I've always put baby powder onto grease stains. White chalk works well too. Leave it for a while, then wash with biological laundry liquid. I breast fed all my kids and although it's over 30 years since the last was weaned, I was a great fan of voluminous scarves and shawls in the colder months. Seasalt (a Cornish clothes company) do a particular wrapover neckline on dresses that struck me as perfect for breast feeding, alas, far too late for me. They're a bit pricey for OAP me when brand-new but they have a sale outlet on ebay which is cheap as chips and I've also picked up a couple of second-hand items too for under a tenner. Well-made and some really lovely fabric designs too.

I feel you on the items you can't wear! I was pregnant again when I stopped nursing my last one in Dec, so by the time we hit spring I will be too big for most of the dresses I've not worn since he was born in '21!

Hannah, in Canada we have a product called Lestoil (google tells me that you can get it in the UK as well). Treat the stains with Lestoil (i just put the cloth over the mouth of the bottle and upend it quickly) and let the Lestoil sit for a few minutes, you can pop it right in the wash and it will take oil/grease stains out even on a cold cycle. Sometimes it will take a couple of treatments to get it fully out, but it should be colour safe on your clothes as well. Good luck!

I'm still feeding my 2 year old and hopefully a newborn in the next few months. My daughter turned one in winter and I stopped feeding her out of the house as it was easier to distract her with snacks. I got to the point I could pretty much wear what I wanted as long as I was willing to somewhat expose myself at home. Also I just used normal stretchy vests and pull them down when feeding. But cheaper and you can size up if a bit tight.
@KerryBethAnneMarie Жыл бұрын
Anytime I get any type of stain on clothes I care about, I pre-treat it with either laundry detergent or stain remover (Shout or Spray n Wash in the US, not sure what brands there are in the UK) as soon as I take it off at the end of the day, and the stain almost always comes out in the wash, if not, I'll treat it and wash it again. A lot of people my age forget to pre-treat stains or don't know it's an option? Save your clothes friends!
@hannahk1306 Жыл бұрын
Vanish is the main one in the UK. I've recently discovered their gel for pre-treatment and it's MAGIC compared to their powder (which works better for in the washing machine).

For the oil stain - maybe dye it a darker colour? Depending on the material - you can get dye that you throw in the washing machine with the clothing and the machine does all the work for you (and doesnt damage the machine) - but check the packet for what material its meant for (these days you can even get dye for synthetic materials that works well)

It's my impression that oil stains will continue to be visible on clothing that's been dyed since being stained. However, it seems fitting that the oil-stained garment could continue to be used as protective-wear for cooking? Alternatively... Maybe you could add intentional oil stains to create a decorative "watermark" pattern, kind of like a new tattoo to cover up an old one that's no longer wanted?
@Rosiepedia Жыл бұрын
Hannah - try tie dying the zip jumper with a darker tone of red. Then the stain will blend in with the splotchy tie-dye pattern and it will look fine!

At least in the US, they make period-stain removing soaps that are intended to dissolve proteins, and they work BRILLIANTLY for getting out oil stains! Just in case the dish soap doesn't work, I'd recommend trying to find one of those if they have them in the UK.

I also use mostly vest tops (which i already used in the summer) and wider sweaters which are easy to pull up. But my vest tops have two layers on the boob, one with the clip to pull down and a short one which is covering the boob from the top. So you just pull it up a bit and you don't have the naked boob problem.
