I’ve been reading documentation, and reviewing videos, in preparation for upgrading a machine (which is currently running Mojave) to Catalina. So far this has been the most helpful video that I’ve encountered. The fact that you’ve covered both the fresh install, and upgrade existing install options, is very helpful as well. This is something that I wanted to understand better, while planning the approach to use for this machine. With this knowledge, I can now plan to use the upgrade option, in conjunction with having already performed a full backup. Thank you, for this, Samuel. It’s much appreciated.

in the macOS post install, what patches do i select if my laptop's model isn't on the list (MacBookAir5,2)?

Now on my old OS, I can't even access a percentage of web pages. Looks like my P ram is messed up. I cannot set my clock right. It's within seconds of being correct, but never perfect, thus the clock is wrong and permission is denied on many web pages. I'm still on 10.6.8, and have a ton of Adobe software and music apps that I do not pay for and would not want to lose. Yes, I back up this hard drive.

Well, you can't live in the stone age on snow leopard in 2022... Just upgrade and move on honestly, it's not that hard. I'm sure you can pirate the software you need again 😂💀🤦.

Is there any way to run the patcher on Windows 10? My mac mini has a broken HDD so I am switching to an SSD. It seems like the patcher could only run on a Mac.
@sjrmac4 жыл бұрын
No way this would run on Windows 10. Built for use on macOS solely

Use Macs Fan control i believe it's called. Works well to manually set the fan speeds and deal with cooling issues

Can I just install it directly into my internal drive will I lose my data ??? I don’t have any usb
@sjrmac3 жыл бұрын
You could do internal install, but i recommend backing up data just in case. Clean install is always the best option though in my opinion.

Thanks Sam . I did it I installed Catalina on my internal. But slow but okay. However I can’t seem to go to recovery this time with command R. To enable sip
@sjrmac3 жыл бұрын
There are a few key combos to boot recovery mode, depends on Mac model. Hop on Google 😄👍

There's no way to run this update without wiping my entire internal HD? I only have one internal HD. Can someone let me know? I've asked this on multiple Dosdude installation videos and no one will help me.
@sjrmac3 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend a backup before you do it, but if you watched the video carefully, you can see that i just did a direct upgrade. I just rather do a clean install to ensure that previous crap is gone. Clean install every once in awhile is a good practice.

@@sjrmac Ok, thank you. I'm just going to try and do a clean install.

if i install it per Method 2, i won't lose any of my files right?
@sjrmac4 жыл бұрын
Yes, but personally I would back them up just in case. I've personally not had a problem with a direct upgrade over a clean install, but backing up is always a safe thing to do 👍

@@sjrmac How do I re- enable the SIP? When i hold down command R and power button all I get is blank white screen. do i need to enable it again?
@sjrmac4 жыл бұрын
You should be able to get back into recovery. If you Google "enable system integrity protection", Apple has a nice page on the details (that I can't remember off the top of my head)
