Emcee, never feel ashamed that you have managed to make money off of playing long JRPGs, after all you're full fledged worker now, it's better than having to do lame jobs like [FIND A PET]. Good work you beautiful man.

I love Breath of Fire 2. It's one of those games that was far more than it seemed. It's a game that was nearly crushed under the weight of its ambition but somehow found a way to survive this and a horrible localization to become a timeless, grindy classic. It's also one of the first games that I can recall that integrated the themes of hp lovecraft when telling an epic fantasy story. Pretty awesome is the town building and shaman additions as well. It's pretty great. This video and your deadpan delivery is also pretty great haha

I didn't miss any of your new videos, if it's any consolation. Also I just wanted to say that the first videos I saw of you were the Majora's Mask ones, and after a few years I'm finally playing the game. Just thought I'd share, keep up the good work Also I loved the gaming symposium, please consider restarting it :)

I found the channel back when those were coming out too. It was the first time I had seen some one look at a video game story critically when it wasn't trying to be blatantly artistic

IIRC, the original SNES translation was handled by a native Japanese speaker who had only a few years of highschool English under their belt.

Thank you sir, for recommending the fan translation, it's the way to fully experience this masterpiece. I loved this game all my life since it came out, I bought it the very same week, and enjoyed it inmensely trough the years, but this patch, oh boy, it makes shine it like the real awesome game it is.

Would you recommend playing the first game before this one? I know the two are linked and you get to revisit some places, but does it really add to the impact of the 2nd game's story and plot twists? Sorry if that's already been answered in your review, I don't wanna watch too much of it to discover as much of the game as possible by myself when I'll finally play it.

Nah, each game basically has some nifty easter eggs and that's about it in terms of connectivity. Thank for watching yo~

I came here to comment about how good the video was... but now it seems like I'm just kissing up because of that very kind shout out you gave me at the end! Thank you very much Emcee! All right, joking aside, great video as usual. Watching the clips in your review is making more and more of BoF2 come back to me... For example, we talked about Rand and how I couldn't remember him at all, but when I saw him in combat I remembered. There were a lot of, "Oh yeaaaaah..." moments. This makes me question why I can't remember much of anything from this game... especially since everything I've seen from your streams and this video makes me think that this should be a game that I absolutely love. I am SOOOO Confused. Comedy was on point, your critique was fantastic... my only problem with the video is you mentioned Sten... and there is NOTHING RELATED TO DRAGON AGE IN THIS VIDEO!!! (I will make this a meme if it kills me).

I actually just started replaying this series. A part of my childhood. Lately I have been thinking of this series being the antithesis of Dragon Quest. They both have religious based saving, but it is how they approach a god in each that is completely different. I was expecting to have to fight god in Dragon Quest, but constantly it was just a force of good. While in Breath of Fire there is a constant theme of deicide(minus dragon god).

i'm glad you played the fan translation. for some odd reason when someone reviews bof 2 they use the original version bad translation and all.

I played the original translation due to the fact that i decided to just binge all the BoF games one after the other (but sadly got burnt out after 3). might need to go back and play 2 knowing of the fan translation now....

Breaking up a review of a game between story and gameplay just makes sense really. Some games are good for playing mindlessly and just letting yourself go, some are good to bring you into a world and enrapture your heart.

Legends of Localization did a good break-down of how poor the translation for Breath of Fire 2 was. It's a shame they didn't bother to retranslate it when porting to the GameBoy Advance. legendsoflocalization.com/breath-of-fire-ii-super-nes-localization-review/ I didn't get to play this one. I owned and continue to own the original and 3, but I missed this one. Probably because it came out the same year as Final Fantasy VI.

BoFII was one of my favorite JRPGS... until I replayed it and realized 90% of all dungeons (up to and including the final dungeon) use the same goddamn song. Oh, I'm sorry, did I say "song"? I meant 15 second loop.

Whatever good can be said of Breath of Fire 2 is immediately nullified by the infuriating rate of random encounter and the brainless battle system. Even Dragon Quest games offer more variety in how random battles are dispatched, and that franchise is the very definition of braindead RPGs!
