BREATHE EASY - Installing LS Swap INTAKE TUBE + MAF Sensor - UTX

Today at Ugly Truck, we're assembling the cold air intake on this 1986 Chevy C10 6.0 LS swap. We don't have a TIG welder, so we get a little creative to make an intake tube that works great and looks great as well. On this truck, we're keeping the battery in the stock location, so that means our MAF sensor needs to move from the passenger side to the driver side. Jerry explains how he re-routes the wiring for the MAF, without cutting or adding any wires.

Hey guys, great video as always. There is a company called air raid and they make a cold air intake that is compatible with the stock air filter box. Could make a video installing an air raid on an LS that has been put in a square body, and mounting the factory air filter box from the LS to the square body like you did with the coolant reservoir? I would super appreciate your expertise on that! Thank you as always

Jerry,a 5/16 nut driver makes tightening hose clamps much easier than a flathead screwdriver. Great job!

@@UglyTruckExperience It’s moving along slowly, like me. It’s a funny coincidence, I just built the intake tube, MAF sensor inline, air filter. I also had to incorporate 3 tubes into the intake tube between the MAF and throttle body. Two 1/2” tubes for the PCV/valve cover vents, and a 3/4” tube for the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. I also built the header, added an O2 sensor bung, and modified a nice stainless muffler a buddy donated to the cause. Waiting for heat wrap and new gaskets, it’s currently painted with VHT high temp header paint in flat black. I’ll get pics of the intake tube after it’s painted and installed. I’m not gonna lie, I watched this last video closely, trying to find a VW or Subaru emblem hidden in the background. After the third time watching, I gave up. It’s ok, I’m still more of a Chevy guy anyway…Never stop building! Cheers! -Jon

Hello Bob. I don't know why it wouldn't work. I think the L99 intake coolant shoots out a few inches below the intake. With the pipe coming up it shouldn't be a problem with the upper hose I would think. If you do it, let us know either way how it goes. Hey Timothy, the upper radiator hose is a Gates 22436. We use the donor radiator, so all of our radiator hoses are from the donor as well (2004 Yukon). Hope this helps! Thanks for watching! --Emily

Quick question, im currently working on a 72 c10 and i was wondering if on the truck fuse box the wires that are labeled ELECTRIC CHOKE and ALTERNATOR IGN are hot at all times or key on?

The electric choke should be with key on and the alternator, ign should be hot at all times. I would double check with a test light. Thanks. Jerry

Hey Danny. On that truck, your tow haul haul button sends a signal to the body control module and then the body control module sends a DATA signal to the ECM to turn on tow/haul. Most likely you do not have the BCM as part of your swap. I will be doing this in upcoming videos. It will be very similar to how I run the AC system. If you do have the bcm already, let me know and I could help out. Thanks . Jerry

Jerry, I know this has nothing to do with this video, but I didn’t know how else to ask you. Have you ever rebuilt the A-arms for the squarebody? I’m wondering if I should buy a tubular A-arm kit or would it be just as good to rebuild the stock ones with polyurethane bushings. What’s your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I have rebuilt them. If you use polyurethane bushings be ready for them to squeak. I have used tube kits on lifted trucks with no problems also. If I was doing it on my own daily driver, I would probably rebuild the A arm with standard bushings. That is my opinion I guess. Let us know which way you go. Thanks. Jerry
