I honestly almost cried when you talked about how privileged some of us are for having so many books to photograph. Bless you for making us remember that! Sometimes I get emotional while staring at my beautiful bookshelves with funkos, pictures, lights and so many decoration. When I look back, I realize how upset I was for not having a proper bookshelf to display my books at all. We must be thankful for every little thing we have

I've been using a mix of my own books and library books for my bookstagram feed. Makes lighting a bit tricky at times, but I want people who follow me to feel like the can be bookish on a budget too. Thanks for all these tips!

You have such a great personality. I really enjoyed watching this video. I really want to start bookstagramming to show my love for books and everything that comes with it. These tips were really helpful. I should’ve known this but I worried so much if my bookstagram would look good, if I should wait creating a bookstagram until I have more books but you are right, I should be myself and I don’t have to worry about everything.

Bookstagram is beautiful haha. I am ok with using lots of hashtags, but irrelevant ones drive me nuts. I love searching them and when I see photos that have nothing to do with it I get so annoyed. IG is good about the emoji comments now. If you leave the same comment on like 3 photos or more it wont let you and tell you that you are spamming hah, which I am so happy for.I hate the way IG formats the photos now. I wish it just showed all my followers photos in my feed. Great tips!

all the books in the vdp are a yoyo each. one euro no matter what the book; libraries will give you the books they don't want; all the classics are two or three euro in bookshops; also when you live longer you will accumulate more books and you will eventually either have a beautiful collection curated over the years or a load of clutter that is affecting your mari kondo minimalist lifestyle - it's happened to the best of us. publishers will also send you books because of your social network, all you have to do is ask; books that you dont want to keep but just want to even just take pictures of are in a magical lieberry where you get the book you bring back the book and its free - if you remember to bring it back but i digress.....happy bookstagram. thank you for all your tips - i thought i would return the favour.

This was so helpful! I'm not sure I'll ever join bookstagram because I'm not good at taking pictures and I had in fact no idea you had to edit them, so now I'm even less keen to join, but who knows XD Maybe I'll give it a try at some point. I do like taking photos, they're just not professional-looking haha. XD

+Silvia Kay So many of them are professional-looking on Bookstagram and it's crazy! Have you got a normal Instagram account for your photos? And what phone have you got? If you can get Snapseed, it's a great way to get into editing!

Breathe and Read I will try that! I have a Samsung phone, but probably the cheapest version available (not Samsung Galaxy or anything, on the phone it just says Samsung haha). I do have a good camera (it's pretty old but it is a DSLR camera, so should be good). I just need to figure out how to use it (it's actually my boyfriend's, in case you're wondering why I don't know how to use my own camera). :) As for Instagram, I don't have an account yet.

I book blogged back in 2008 so I have A LOT of books I got for review; I moved a lot over the last 5 years so I buy ebooks or I borrow from my elibrary! But my bf lately has been buying me books cause I'm having trouble falling in love with books lately. Bookstagram is such a new monster to those of us who've been book blogging and it's so discouraging because people have awesome photos and I'm like WHAT HAPPENED TO READING WORDS ON A BLOG 😭😭😭😭! So yeah I'm struggling lmao! I was just telling my bf how I had to pay $150/week for my health insurance then to SEE my therapist for like 3 mins every 3-4 weeks was $30 THEN my medication which was only good for 4 weeks at a time was another $80!!! Like WHY IS MENTAL HEALTH SO EXPENSIVE! It's insane!

I've a new account atm and am working on targetting hashtags with less than 300k posts, but ideally I'd say start on ones with less than 50k and work your way up to the bigger ones. :)
