Elvis Presley hated when he was called the King. At a concert a group of girls booked out a row of seats and during a pause in the music they stood up with a banner saying “Elvis, You’re the King.” Elvis stopped before saying. “No. I am not the King, Jesus Christ is the King, I’m just an entertainer.” I listen to Elvis’ gospel music because that is the music he truly loved. Elvis Presley singing ‘Without Him’ describes my life.

Awesome choice Brandy! Loved your reaction. You mentioned his Christmas album before. From the same '68 comeback special, Elvis also performed a song from that Christmas album called "Blue Christmas" that's worth checking out. Some more great live Elvis performances are "Polk Salad Annie", "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling", "Just Pretend" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" from Vegas 1970, "Never Been To Spain", "Big Hunk O' Love" and "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" from 1972, and "American Trilogy" and "Steamroller Blues" from Hawaii 1973. You'll love it.❤❤❤

With Elvis it's not only that he made musical history, but in fact he changed the whole culture. Elvis still is the "mold"...Noone before or after comes close.

Facts!!! Idc if he didn’t write the music, NOBODY could match his vocal ability to adapt to any genre of music. He didn’t just have one voice. Elvis could sing any song any style. Especially gospel.. which is absolutely unbelievable!!! The way he could interpret music then completely deliver it in a way no other entertainer could is unmatched. Oh.. not to mention unmatched stage presence and charisma. He invented swagger just by being himself. Elvis always respected the music and the culture that influenced him. I believe he was the worlds first ICON in music history. He will always be the GOAT!!!!

Elvis closed his concerts in the 1970's with "Can't Help Falling In Love", after he left the stage the announcer would always make the announcement Elvis Has Left The Building, to calm the audience down especialy the ladies, only Elvis could cause that kind of excitement to an audience, so check out "Can't Help Falling In Love" 1972 and see for yourself, from the documentary "Elvis On Tour" 1972, Thank You. ❤❤

Tryin’ To Get To You was recorded by Elvis in July 1955 and released in August 1956. Elvis was performing some of his old songs in this session for the 1968 TV special. That may be why you didn’t recognize it.

Thanks for listening to the man who stunned this 12 year old girl in 1956 watching him on TV. I flipped out and love him at 80 years old. He changed music and culture so shocking to the adults in the prim 50's he wasn't shown from the waist up on tv. He had a 23 year career dying at age 42 in 1977. I hope you will listen to his wonderful tribute to Dr. !Martin Luther King who died a few months before this 68 special. "If I Can Dream". Thanks for you great reaction.

ELVIS & HIS NERVES: Steve Binder who was the producer-director of this '68 Comeback special, related a little story which took place in the dressing room right before Elvis was due to go on: Elvis was extremely nervous and he told Binder that he didn't know any of the songs, he forgot all the words, & wasn't going out there, & Binder said "I don't care if you walk out, just say hello & then walk off, but you ARE going out." And out he came. This show was being taped @ time both Martin Luther King & Robert Kennedy were assassinated & the closing song "If I Can Dream" was created because of the turmoil in the world which also included the Vietnam war.

Elvis did this song early in his career circa 1955 BEFORE worlwide fame, on Sun Records. it was not considered a major hit, just an album song when RCA bought his recordings from Sun Records. Of it doesn't matter what Elvis songs, the females melt lol. This 1968 TV Special actually saved his career from gong down the toilet and resulted in him getting the Las Vegas gigs the next, new recordings of songs way better than his silly movies had, and then led to touring.

Actually, the 60s had a lot in common with the present time. The world was on the edge of a nuclear war, and the Civil Rights Movement caused angry and violent protests and riots in the streets. The streets were burning and many black people were killed. During the Cold War, the world was divided into East and West, young and old, normal and crazy, or at least very weird. The older generations thought the End Times were near because the world was turned upside down. Women got their contraception pill and started to break free. They even started leaving and divorcing their husbands and wanted to earn their own money to be independent. That was unheard of. Men wore funny clothes and long hair and all listened to weird noises they called music. The Vietnam War and many other wars were raging. Many young men enlisted and were killed in countries they didn`t even know existed, while the Hippies lived on drugs, sex, and Rock and Roll and chanted such nonsense as "Make Love Not War!", while Janice Joplin screamed her lungs out on stage as if she was burned on the stakes. No wonder parents and grandparents were confused, overwhelmed, afraid, and desperate In 1963, JFK was assassinated and America and the world were in shock and deep disbelief. In 1965, Malcolm X was assassinated, and in 1968, both Martin Luther King Jr. and RFK were also assassinated, the same year Elvis had this Come Back Special. So, you see, we live in very similar times.
