alpha radiation doesn't penetrate skin. It can't even penetrate paper. What makes radon so scary is that it gets past your skin because you breathe it in, which is where it causes damage.
@Hiperruimteindustriee
@Hiperruimteindustriee 2 жыл бұрын
It's beta radiation, which is mostly harmless since even human skin can block it, though breathing in beta-decay isotopes is not safe, since they can go into the lungs, which have no such shielding. This is also why uranium glazed pots are safe, as long as they aren't chipped, when chipped they can spread radioactive dust. In larger quantities though, the small-ish amount not blocked becomes large enough to do damage, so protection is needed for large amounts of uranium, but not for a few pots.

The radiation from Uranium actually isn't a huge deal. It's mostly alphas and not THAT active. So long as you don't ingest it or inhale a chunk a little exposure won't do much. It's chemical toxicity is comparable to lead so I would honestly say just treat it similarly. Obviously storing large amounts of it in a not so well ventilated space will accumulate some radon, which IS a big deal long term.

Well technically it feels less acceleration upwards from the buoyant force of air due to its higher mass and thereby falls quicker (which is also technically true for solid objects though it and differences In it on different objects matter a lot less in high density objects). Gravity btw the gasses and earth acts the same on the different gasses but the forces between the air and the gasses differ depending on mass, especially when comparing gasses with densities somewhat close to the density of air)

@JesterAzazel
@JesterAzazel 5 жыл бұрын
@🐆Phoenix The Cheetah 🐆 It's uranium ore. Only like .7% of that can even be used as fuel. Also, eeeverything is radioactive. But different materials produce it at different rates, and they produce different kinds of radiation. It's not always dangerous. You can look it up on EPA dot gov for more information.
