decrease rate of fatigue, if you breathe too quickly all the oxygen doesnt have time to leave your lungs meaning less oxygen is transported to your muscles for respiration. as a result you begin to use your anerobic energy system to carry out sporting tasks. This produces sufficient energy however you will fatigue quickly. You can also use it to redirect focus away from stressful situations and help you focus on your task.

I have read the book and adopted many of the techniques outlined to great effect. One question I would love answered is as a tennis player we are always taught to breathe out through the mouth slightly before and through contact with the ball. How would Patrick have a tennis player breath during points (nose or mouth)? It does seem that most of the top players still breath through the mouth during the shot but the revert to nose breathing after points and on changeovers. Any advice?
