We catch up with Nathan Higgins from Higgins Race Heads at Dandy Engines testing their new SB2H Chevy small block V8 cylinder heads and manifold induction package. These are based on the NASCAR SB2.2 design architecture and performed extremely well at their first reliability session. Higgins will be offering multiple port sizes and manifold options to customers for both street and race applications.

I agree. No 850hp Barra can come close to the sound of an angry N/A V8. Or match it's real world response. Not sure you could put this motor in anything and make it sound like a sleeper though. I'd know immediately not to mess with it just hearing it idle.

SB2 stands for Small Block 2nd Generation. It was designed in the late 80’s through the early 90’s. But wasn’t allowed by nascar until the 2001. (I may be wrong on that one.) you can use these heads on a stock gen one block with milling on the lifter bores.
@michaelstoker6710
@michaelstoker6710 3 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify the sb2 does stand for 2nd generation but its the 2nd generation Nascar engine from GM. Gm also released a generation 2 sbc LT1 in 92 that was reverse flow coolant and a opti spark on the front driven by the cam instead of a crank driven dis. I also think it was 98 that GM switched the the sb2 in nascar.

WOw great stuff, perfect for anything which has plenty of room under the bonnet, those headers are something else, i have always said that if you have the headers pointing in the same direction as the port and as long as possible before a bend, you will increase HP by at least 10 to 20% easy more on top of your off the shelf headers made by most aftermarket exhaust manufacturers, nothing against them, its just that they have to cater for all those cars which require factory clearances under the bonnet. :) Like Pacemaker, DPE, Hurricane, X force and others?

Not with a 260-ish cam and a 4150 at that rpm, with that valve size and with that MCSA.. Can't compare apples to oranges, and certainly shouldn't be basing power from a cfm number..
@ianmatteson482
@ianmatteson482 4 жыл бұрын
VengeanceIzMine agree with everything you say. Didn’t argue that. But a cfm rating is a good number to judge the horsepower that an engine is capable of making with the right combination. Not judging power out of cfm. I’m well aware of the factors that will restrict a head that flows that much if not taken into consideration.

How would this package do on a twin turbo setup as far as the two center exhaust ports next to each other?
@vengeanceizmine9878
@vengeanceizmine9878 4 жыл бұрын
Siamesed center exhaust isn't a huge issue, as turbos have been run successfully for many years on the typical small block Chevrolets, long before any LS came into the picture. More importantly, what I look at, is the very shallow valve angle and very small chamber size this type of head uses. Not saying it can't be done, but they definitely need a different approach to keep pistons in one piece when using Nitrous and Boost.. very timing sensitive, and controlling flame speed is critical.
@AB-80X
@AB-80X Жыл бұрын
@@vengeanceizmine9878 The head will be fine on boost or nitrous. What you need is a short stroke that allows for a piston with eh proper crown design, a proper compression height and a strong ring land. Alternatively a tall deck small block would work really well.

At 3:45 he says all the runners point to the centre of the carby so the distance from the valve to the carby is the shortest. Wouldn't it be shorter still (and more equal) if the inlet and exhaust valves on the end cyls were the same position as an OEM head so the pairs of inlet ports were right next to each other instead of being separate by some distance? The new setup does make for a cool looking inlet manifold though.
@aDaWaN
@aDaWaN 4 жыл бұрын
I think he most likely meant the straightest rather than the shortest. This head is clearly designed with the single plane carburettor intake in mind. Something like an LS is designed around emissions and injection, so not strange it is less than ideal for a single plane.
@vengeanceizmine9878
@vengeanceizmine9878 4 жыл бұрын
He is referring to line of site, from valve to plenum... yes, the runner lengths differ from inside to outside, that is a necessary evil on a single carb intake.. this valve arrangement and port layout (often called a mirror port design) allows for a better line of site to the valve, compared to a symmetrical or traditional lay out. Ie: straighter overall intake tract. Hope this helps..
