@@a-drewg1716 How much of that was promised, and how much was it a hype train? I never really followed the development of the game closely, but I had friends super hyped for it. And I kept insisting they were going to be disappointed, and they always called me a doomer for it. Refused to listen, insisted that because of the delays it was going to be good on release, because of course 3 delays in release has no implications on management or other huge backend issues. It is a game that had so many delays, developed from the start of a console generation almost to the end (meaning suddenly the game had to rapidly change so it wouldn't be obsolete on the next 2 gens), and had a Horde of followers begging for its release because it had been hyped up. It was always going to disappoint, but what were they going to do? Tell you the game was shit and was going to be delayed again when it was already becoming a meme akin to HL3? They needed to make a profit or they could have been ruined, plain and simple. The company bit off more than they could chew, their engine was unprepared when they began making the game, the delays made expectations massive (attempting to temper it could have been a disaster for sales) and it was their first time designing a modern environment (or future, either way the amount of extra work that goes into getting shadows, lighting, vehicles, constant reflections, etc was insane and they had no experience as a studio optimizing them with their engine). Frankly, I would have done the same thing. All that being said, it was a commercial success, the reviews match the quality (middling) and, while the price tag doesn't fit, it's not a disaster.

@@a-drewg1716 Try it now, there are a lot of interesting things to do. Unlike other studios CDPR kept at it putting more fixes and quests into the game. I encourage you to try the game again if you already have it. Be sure to look into different cyberware shops (double jump is great for exploring) and check the side quests there are some really great things to find. Calling it "a piece of shit" is a falsehood and just isn't accurate anymore.

They shelved it almost as soon as it was announced to work on other projects (like Witcher 3 DLC) and eventually reactivated with a team of absolute newbies at the helm to do something like maybe 3 years of work. The team effectively wasn’t qualified for the scale of the job they were given, couldn’t get it done on time, and were eventually told to cut features so it could just be released. The good state of the game only exists because the backlash was so severe they decided to No Man’s Sky it in hopes people wouldn’t hate all their new games forever.
