Gorgeous! As I watched, I wondered how terrified people must have been when the town was built. Building in high places was a defensive strategy because it was not easily accessible, and you could easily see if advancing forces were coming to attack the town. The Middle Ages there must have been a very scary time. Fascinating.

I love Maiera! We took that walk on 16th October to go to a wedding while we were over. Did anyone tell you about how the girls of Grisolia used to throw ropes down the gorge so that the young men of Maiera could climb up to court them? 😉 More than a few dads in Grisolia out with their sharpened knives I'll bet! 🤣🤣 Wonderful towns. We went to the wild boar sagra in Grisolia some years ago, it was fabulous! Singing, dancing, live music and great food and wine. Maiera's sagra took place in San Pietro the chiesa, wonderful times, looking forward to many more in the future!

I Kevin, This time of year we get some rain however there are many sunny days. Tomorrow and the next few days will be sunny. Check out the videos of Cirella and the drone flyovers of Scalea. Gorgeous weather. Tomorrow we will be in Cosenza and it is supposed ot be sunny. We will film there so you can see what it looks like.

Hi Roberta! This town is a lot smaller than SDT and I only saw a BNB and a couple of shops farther down the hill but only a farmacia in the Centro Storico. Scalea is nearby however with the big supermarkets and shopping areas.

Hi Rene! Italy does have earthquakes but the houses have to be seismically up to code when renovated.

I love and want to move anywhere in Italy my only concern is that it’s cheap (100,000$ or less), not too far from a hospital and mom won’t get too lost in translation. I’m not worried about myself and I could translate for her. I don’t care if the people around me are decades older then me I just want mom to be content because me moving to Italy isn’t something she wanted and I want to convince her to stay much longer. Any recommendations? Please PS I love your content.

Scalea is a great place. It has its of ex pats and may English speakers who are a great group and really help each other out. The hospital is in Belvedere Marittimo and so about 30 minutes for Scalea. Very easy to get to. You could get a lovely apartment in that price range.

I think in that town, yes, I have not seen a lot of people there in the historic center. There is a bar and meat store lower down and there were more people around there but now many. I think this town is for those who are looking for peace and quiet.

This is a very quiet town. I only saw two people in the Centro Storico while we were there. It needs new life but for someone who wants quiet, it is really stunning!

I'm 58 and studying residential electrical maintenance. My wife has Italian citizenship and we often we think about moving to a place like this when she retires. Do you thing there will be work to do for someone with my skills? I don't want to be retired and just do nothing hahahaha.
