Breda, a very old city in The Netherlands

The name derived from brede Aa ('wide Aa' or 'broad Aa') and refers to the confluence of the rivers Mark and Aa. Breda has 185,072 inhabitants on 13 September 2022 and is part of the Brabantse Stedenrij; it is the ninth largest city/municipality in the country, and the third largest in North Brabant after Eindhoven and Tilburg. It is equidistant between Rotterdam and Antwerp.

This brought back a lot of memories! I spent three summers in a row in Breda in 1987, 88 and 89. I remember walking a lot of those streets and staying two of those years at the Hotel de Klok. I even learned some of the language! Now I am old (81) and unable to travel except on KZbin, so thanks for the memories! 🇨🇦

Cool! I lived in Breda for about nine years. My family had moved to the Netherlands on Thanksgiving day 1969 from California. We lived at my auntie and uncle's in Alphen for six months and then moved to Breda. I was 13 years old. I had summer jobs working at the Hotel de Klok as a chamber maid, kitchen help and cleaner in 1972, '73, '74 and '75. I loved the inner city and the parks. It was a safe time. I could wander around as a young teenaged girl and never got harassed. My older sisters married Dutch boys and settled down in the Netherlands. I moved on to Canada when I was 22 years old. I'll never forget my years in Breda.
